Selling F-16s to an Islamic nation run by a military dictator who recently traded nuclear technology with Libya and North Korea and which upsets India; what could possibly go wrong?

They already own some of our older ones, they are phasing out their Russia jets.

Plus we can just booby trap them, if something happens we push a button and they all explode.

Where is that stupid? What is better than giving a country things we know the weaknesses of?

Besides, read the whole story next time.

$50 says the Americans sell them the F-16s but leave some back-door code in there they would enable the americans to disarm them should they ever need to. I hate to say it, but noddy's probably right

Just like in Battlestar Galactica.....

the issue isnt them being used against america or western targets, its that this is counter to what their so called policys are on dictatorships, countries that harbor terrorists, and its just added some moe fuel to the dispute between india and pakistan which is in danger as its two nuclear powers who dont like each other, why is america encouraging and supporting a nation that if they didnt let them do some operations there they'd call a rogue nuclear nation.

That is why we do what I said earlier.

i just think maybe encouraging both countries to slow down their military build up, rather than encouraging it to make money might be in best interest of peace

It's not as profitable though.

they do it with the humvees dont they?

dont humvees have some special immobilise/start system that only the US army knows of?

Heh heh. The US army and you? :D

If they did, I shouldn't imagine it being that difficult to take out?

Actually, that would be pretty cool. America sells fighter jets to India and Pakistan, waits 'til they start fighting and once their planes are all in the air, sends the self destruct code and hopes that someone's near enough to catch eleventy billion planes blowing up simultaneously, then sending the PR people in to say, "Whoops, we forgot about that flaw where the self destruct is set to a random number of trigger presses. What a coincidence they all went off at once, huh? Also, you're not getting your money back"

Of course, the first thing Pakistan's gonna do is get their techs, mostly trained up in the US anyway, to reverse engineer them and find any flaws, backdoors or holes in the mechanics, electronics and/or software and patch 'em up

Not surprising. Pakistan already has F-16s in it's airforce, along with other assorted American aircraft. They've been wanting to get more for a while now. I'm sure the Indian government would've foreseen this anyway, they always try to keep tabs on everything Pakistan does.

India doesn't buy American aeroplanes for it's air force (as far as i know anyway), it mainly uses Russian and European planes. It does buy some engines and other components, though.

and india can use their army of telstra tech support people as replacement pilots

I'd say good for them, but American aircraft are the only ones that are battle tested, these days. You're putting yourself at a tactical disadvantage by not going American

You put raw prawns in your F16? Well, no wonder it's not working!
