Ok, about 1 year ago I bought my computer off a fellow. He didn't include windows XP which he should have.

So I used a "not.so.legal" copy of it from my mate, Sean A.

Which I installed service pack 1a on.

The system worked like a dream until about 3 weeks ago, when I had so much spyware and useless software that I decided there was no choice but to reformat.

So I asked Sean A for the install discs again. He had lent them to his other mate who had then lost them. :swear:

So I searched around for the next week until I found that my other mate, Sean B, had another "not.so.legal" copy.

So I reformatted and used Sean B's Discs.

These seemed to work until I attempted to install Service Pack 1a.
About half way through the install process an error occured.

It alerted me to the fact that the CD Key used to install XP was invalid *of course it was, it was not.so.legal*

And without Service Pack 1a installed i can not connect to bigpond.net.au

So current situation:

not.so.legal Windows XP installed on computer.
Unable to install Service Pack 1a *which is needed for internet access*
And no legal copy of XP.

My current options:

Go back to fuckhead who sold me computer and demand a copy of XP or i dob the fucker in for it and everything else in his house.

or

Buy my own copy of XP *which I have no money for*

Download an XP image from a torrent or kazaa lite or somewhere else. Or get a rego key from someone else.

I have, and I haven't looked back. In fact, you can run most things you run under windows with Linux, and if you can't then you probably don't need it. I'm a short compile away from WoW running on my box.

Try Fedora Core 3, or Suse. If you are a newbie, Suse is good, as it comes pre-installed with WINE to run all your undoubtably not.so.legal copies of Microsoft and Adobe products. Suse also pretty much works outta the box, with most stuff pre-installed.

The reason your XP doesn't work is because you used a cd-key which was blacklisted in SP1. All you need to do is change the key. I've made a guide in the special forum for this very thing. I will PM you.
