View Full Version : So the cops show up this morning....

I wake up this morning to the sound of loud banging on our front door. I get up thinking a massive "wtf" and see my dog barking at the door and a big looking guy at the window. I open the door and am greeted by 2 plain clothes policemen and 1 (reasonably attractive) policewoman. They tell me they have a warrant to search our house and come inside. 2 more policemen come in from down stairs and walk into the kitchen soon after, giving me a grand total of 5 plain clothes officers, guns and all, standing in my kitchen telling me they're gonna search the place for drugs.
As it turns out they were quite friendly people - 1 guy spent most of the time chatting to me about keyboards, synths and stuff, how he just shelled out 9 grand on a fully weighted 88 key electric piano. The thing that gets me is that they were searching the place for "cannabis sativa and/or waterpipes". Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but do they really need to send out 5 plain clothes officers to our house at 7 in the morning to search the place for a relatively minor (in the eyes of the law) drug? They found my brother's bong, didn't find anything else and reassured me that it's really nothing to worry about, nothing serious etc. What did they expect? My bro's not a dealer, he smokes on the odd occasion. Sure the situation was much much worse a few years ago, but he was never caught with anything so there's no reason to suspect him of that now. Either someone's got it in for him and gave them false information leading them to believe they'd uncover a major pot dealer, or there's some serious priority issues going on in the QLD police force.
All he has to do is go into the cop shop, get a slap on the wrist (probably have to go to a 1 hour anti-pot seminar or something) and that's it. They wasted 30 mins and 5 police officers for such a minor offence. He probably won't even get a fine. It's like raiding someone's house for a stolen pencil or something.

Weird....
A mate of mine had ASIO turn up to his warehouse the other day where himself and another seven ppl live. Apparently a well known Egyptian terrorist had been ringing the common phone there for like the last two years. I don't think he had been talking to anyone, they just knew he had been calling there and wanted to ask a few questions.
What I want to know is why it took them two years to finally go round there and suss it out?

Just curious,
Did they have any reasonable cause to search your place for drugs?
If all they found was 1 bong, it doesn't sound like you're a junkie or dealer.
It must be WAY too easy for cops to get drug-related warrants these days.
I'd be pissed if I was in your shoes.
The first question that popped into my mind, Afro, was: did they show you the warrant - and did you actually READ it - before they entered your place?
Anyway, my guess would be that someone who hates you or your brother made an anonymous phone call...

Yeah prolly an anon. tip
Your brother will get a $200-$300 fine or the option to do a drug diversion program.
THe important thing to remember people is that if it is your 1st offence then you got to ask the magistrate not to record a conviction esp. for Drug offences as you are screwed for travel o/s esp. to USA.
THe other thing is to make sure that you get onto the cops early and get the brief of evidence called the QP9 and make sure you check it out thoroughly against your recollection and if it doesn't accord with your recollection then lawyer up.
If there is one thing that I know in this game (being a lawyer) is that cops lie...
the other things I know are subject to privilege.

Aren't you mean to point out that this is not legal advice and if he wants legal advice he should consult an attorney licensed to practise in his jurisdiction, or something? :)

Yeah they did, that was the first thing I asked for when they started walking in. They were reluctant to say what it was about until all the cops were in the room, but they showed the warrant within 20 seconds of entering my place anyway. It stated that they were only searching for "cannabis sativa and/or waterpipe". Why waste 5 cops on that. Anyway.
Turns out one of his "mates" (read dude he gets pot from) got busted recently and he must have given them my bro's name. I asked the cop what it was about, what made them think that my bro had cannabis and he told me it's illegal for them to tell me rah rah. But I managed to get out of him that it has to be more than just a phone call for them to actually raid someone's house, but I guess he could just be saying that. I doubt they'd send 5 cops to someone's place to raid it from just one anonymous phone call, but this is QLD police we're talking about.
Sagacious: Good advice, I'll let him know. I'm pretty sure it's his 1st offence so it's good to know he probably won't get a record.
I'm just glad no one else was home at the time. Mum would have been in tears and my bro would have lost it (he's got enough on his plate as it is). My parents know now of course, but it would have been alot worse if they'd witnessed it. It's a pretty scary experience watching parts of your house get searched for drugs, even if it has nothing to do with you.

Especialy at 7 in the morning... its a scarey time of the morning to wake up... letalone have 5 cops 'storm' the 'joint'.

in my dealings with lawyers ive found about 1/3 to be lying bottom feeding scum, 1/3 to be lazy lying bottom feeding scum and 1/3 to be great people,
yet i know only 2 police that have been found to b liers. one just pretended for about 3 years he was a single parent (when he was married living with wife and kid whole time) and another that was lieing to covr his laziness, the rest have all been great. interesting fun people.
and i know alot of cops (parents were/are cops thus i used to know the security codes to holroyd, wenty and parra stations etc....

We are both in Queensland dude.
and no this is not advice per se just an inication of what would happen to someone like that in the Brisbane Courts in my experience.
Thanks for reminding me to disclaim all of that

You must only know those two police if you found only two to be liars. I don't think it is possible to do their job without stretching the truth.

There's the lying (or truth-stretching) that their job requires them to do, then there's the extent to which they are honest, decent people off the job. I think Sagacious was referring to one aspect and ezer to the other.
what part of ther job requires lying?

He went to the cops today, had a brief interview and was let off. No court, no charges, no record. He just has to go to a "drug prevention seminar" :ha:
Good to hear. Now, I hope he's learned his lesson and gives up smoking that evil, evil weed.
Speaking of evil, where does one get some weed in London ?
If you manage to pop in for a quick beer this evening, I'm sure one or two of the folks there can put you in touch with someone who knows someone who just might possibly be able to answer your query.
Or not.
Some geezer in a posh pub around bank offered me pills the other night. I guess wearing hawaiian shirts to a pub filled mainly with suits has its benefits

yeh... i would b realy worried about what else they are gona find.. i mean seriously... just about everyone could be put away for a very long time if the cops went thru someones house properly.
I dont know the rap 4 warez and suchlike... but except Duke Nukem 3D that i bought in the dark ages... i dont have 1 legal game and definatly not any legal software. As for pr0n... well i dont think u can get in trouble unless its underage or whatever... still be very scarey

So you're not allowed to have bongs in the house? Anyone know if that's the case in Victoria? I don't see why they would be illegal - many are decorative and many people smoke tobacco through hookahs and bongs.

hard to do, hash is around but actual weed is difficult. I got some through a guy i met in Brixton, he had a supermarket of the stuff in his house, it was great. I would recommend hanging out in Brixton for anything really.
A friend of mine used to go to a "video store" which would move every three months or so. They had about 10 videos on the shelves but those in the know would say some special code and be taken out the back where they could buy good pot. If they were to move store they would let you know the next address, if they knew you.

Well considering that i know of many shops that advertise sale of bongs in the windows and so forth in victoria... Its definatly not ilegal. there are also shops that sell canibis seeds so im prety sure thats not illegal either... correct me if im rong.
