Just a thread I've been meaning to start, since I know there are a damn lot of us in Brissie that read very similar sorts of books, and since I also know there are a lot of us who trawl through bookstores new and secondhand tracking down these books...

So if you find a decent stash, or found a hard-to-find-book somewhere, let us know where they are at..... :D Helps particularly those of us who aint been in the south-east for too long...

So far my favourite places have been:

Rocklea Markets - from week to week the market vendors tend to change so you never know what you are going to find.... I have yet to come away empty handed though. Scored Pyramids by Pratchett yesterday for $2 (and as this is my favourite and I didnt own it already I'm freakin stoked), have also scored numerous Forgotten Realms for only a couple of bucks each.

Carrara Markets - only been there once but there are so damn many second hand book stalls there and they all seem to be swimming in fantasy, prices she aint so good though.

There's also this amazing store in Southport, the name of which eludes me atm, but they have more fantasy in there than I have seen for a long time... This was where I picked up my signed copy of Interesting Times (for only $30). My sister also got a lot of Tintin she hadnt been able to find elsewhere yet.

Anyone got some other suggestions?

I shall post more as I remember :D

The shop in Southport is called Antique and Collectors' Books :)

For full price books I just want to plug Pulp Fiction in the city and even Borders :)

I have also gotten a couple of books from the Valley Markets, though I wouldn't get my hopes up too much when going there.

And Shiny, when are you taking me and Shoon to Carrara? Huh?

Lock it in, thanks Eddie

And as much as I'd love to be entertaining this Sydney zgeeker all the time, there's always time for a trip to the markets, especially booky ones :)

Belgarath???

Don't read that until you've read the Belgariad first David!

I'm going to give Arsozah such a spanking since she was too busy using her tongue for non-literary pastimes and not schooling you properly in the chronology!

p.s. eddings sucks balls. you should be reading salvatore or drake. :D

p.s.s. Arsozah and shoon, how's carrara this weekend sound? Saturday road trip or what?

Sounds like a plan!

I was meant to work, but today got asked to switch weekends, so WOOHOO!

I'm going to give Arsozah such a spanking since she was too busy using her tongue for non-literary pastimes and not schooling you properly in the chronology!

While I am not contesting the usage of my tongue - I claim no responsibility about this :) He bought the book before he got here :) Although - I'd read Belgarath over the rest of the Belgariad any day.

Arsozah tells no lie. I wanted something to read while waiting for the plane and the selection of fantasy books was quite limitted at the Airport, definately no Warcraft books I craved. I saw Eddings on the cover and heard he/they were good :)

Enjoying it muchly at the moment!!!

Enjoying the book as well..... :)

Eddings isn't bad the first time you read him... until you realise he just modified the same story a few times for all his different series'.

Much like Dan Brown except with a bit more modification than just character and place names.

Although if you want good fantasy read Feist. Magician is still my favouritist book.

Edit: and now I've read the whole thread... where's this shop in southport? By that I mean... where's southport?

Oh and there is a pretty damn sweet secondhand shop in the city it's bloomin' huge... and by bloomin' I mean I almost wet my panties the first time I walked in. It's just up the street from panevino's(which is right next door to gilhooley's) just near the 24 hour pancake place and the copper shop there.

Is that the downstairsey one? And Southport is on the Coast, wanna come for a ride on Saturday? I'm still heading down there for SURE. :D I've been reading Death Gate Cycle and its just a bit fucking boring after anything with Drizzt in it. I need a copy of Legacy. And the clerics Quintet. Then I'll be a happy ASS.

P.s. posting here too that the Medieval Festival is on soon... Who's with me??? :D:D:D

downstarsey one? I have no idea... next time I'm in the city, friday, i'll have a gander.

and as for saturday I'm not sure if I'm busy or not. How often do you guys go down to southport...? (I remember it now, I was there once... oh about three years ago ;p)

If you guys only go down every three months or so i'll come, but if you guys go all the time I'll come next time. ;p

Oh and which book are you on for the death gate cycle? I didn't really enjoy books 1 and 5. I thought 4 was a mite slow but still interesting. However aside from that I love the series and have read it quite a few times.

I only managed to make it down to the coast for the first time a couple months ago :p
