Powerbook. Costs more, but worth it.
I got an iBook, I totally like it, but if I had the chance again; would have gotten a PB.
More Ram, More HDD, and the sorts.

The real issue is what do you want it for?

Video/Graphics/Music/Gaming definately go for the PowerBook.

Office/Web Development

iBook will be more than enough.

I do agree that the PowerBook is the way to go and would recommend aiming for the 15" PowerBook.

If cost is an issue then 14" iBook would be the way to go.

I personally have the 12" iBook but if I hadn't of upgraded due to an insurance claim I probably would have gone for the 12" PowerBook with SuperDrive (I just love the portability that the 12" award).

Compared the two and had to conclude that the Powerbook was a status symbol, nothing more. I bought the iBook for the missus instead, simply because it offered almost identical functionality for at least $1k less. Slightly slower proc, slightly less expensive keyboard, but overall same device.

powerbook all the way. i've got an ibook now, which has been a quality machine when it works, but there have been quite a few times when the machines been on the blink. i reckon the powerbooks are a bit more robust and of better quality.

The PowerBook has a few more features if you're into music or upgradability.

The PowerBook has PCMCIA slots and has audio in as well.

However PCMCIA seems to be a slowly dying technology and audio in can be provided via a USB device so no real biggie except for tying up a USB port but that's nothing that a Hub couldn't fix.

All in all the iBook I have is pretty great but it would be nice to have built in wireless networking and Bluetooth instead of having these as options.

I have recently heard that the PowerBook has a bit of problem with wireless reception, like 2 mates of mine are in the same dorm in their boarding house one has an Ibook and one a PowerBook and they are exactly the same distance from the iBurst modem and the PowerBook struggles to get even 3 reception whilst the Ibook is getting full.....has anyone else heard of exp. this before?? and thanks heaps for the replys guys, they are really helpful!

We don't have any AP's here at work and I always disable wireless because there's no automated ways to lock it down should a user be stupid enough to connect up to a peered network and not disconnect at a later time.

My point? Sorry, haven't been able to test this out and not really able to despite there being a few ibooks and powerbooks in the company.
