Before reading this, yes i do realise that it is only beta but i think its a little too much like SP 2, dumbed down security.

Recently my friend has been raving about Micro$oft AntiSpyware, so I decided I would see what he was on about. Currently I run Spybot S&D, and Ad-Aware SE and ocassionaly HijackThis, so im pretty well protected. So i did a scan of my computer, and it was finding, VNC, MessengerPlus, and KaZaA and declaring it all moderate threats. This is found a little strange cause none of the other programs found them as threats, but maybe parts of these programs can be classified as one. So I set them to Always Ignore (ok this function I like). I then moved onto System Explorer, some of this functionality is good and may be usefull if you get a homepage hijacker. Ok so I moved on to the Running Processes. For the hell of it i decided to kill Abyss Webserver, when I did I noticed a small textbox appearing in the bottom left hand corner of the list box. So I tried again and yet again it appeared. It seems that somebody forgot to set the visible property of the textbox to false, I am guessing that it is used as a hack (get around) for an issue in the program.
Overall i plan to stick with Ad-Aware, Spybox S&D and HijackThis, I dont see that this program is doing a much better job than my usual protection.
It is beta I know, and it does bring together a lot of the functionality of these three other programs but if its to beat them it needs a lot of work.

I did a scan through Spybot after runing AntiSypware and it found a actual items that could be clasified as spyware or the like.

Just for the hell of it i have attached the image of the txtFocus

It's an MS program, and it's a beta. Why the hell would you expect it to work?
There are plenty of 3rd party adware removal programs out there that work fine, why bother with this? I dont know why MS even bother, wouldn't it be better that they just built a more secure OS?

Yeah, all this crap they've been building, service pack 2, and this anti-spyware thing is all just putting more gaffa tape onto something thats falling to pieces. They're just patching rather than addressing the real issues.

What, that computers & programs are made by man, and therefore are anything but perfect? I somehow doubt that one is ever going to be fixed.

I agree, I wonder if it will be the same case for their AV software, I think I will still stick with NAV or some other company thats programs dont have a tendancy to bug me about security functions that are usless.
