Ok, I just downloaded and installed iTunes 4.8 on my iBook and it is waay cool. You can now add video to your playlists and view in fullscreen.

Seriously, I think Apple is finally moving in the right direction and iTunes could now finally be used as a full on media center.

All it needs now is the ability to play RealMedia and Windows Media video and audio and it would be the ultimate media player ever. :D

I still don't like how iTunes actually handles the playlists. That's the main reason I avoid it.

After accidentally allowing it to "organise" my music once, iTunes is BANZORED from my computer.

I think this is the wrong direction for a music player. Media centre apps always suck. It makes much more sense to use specific apps to play videos, mp3s and all the rest. I don't see how iTunes could possibly be a decent video player. Is it gonna try and copy videos to my mp3 directory too?

It's like when Winamp all of a sudden decided it was a video player - it crashed and burned and now nobody uses it.

Ironically, irfanview competently plays just about any media I have in my computer. If it had a decent way to playlist, I'd use it alone.

Technically iTunes DOES use seperate apps as it uses QuickTime to play the video. But then iTunes is more or less a frontend for QuickTime anyway (you can't use iTunes without QuickTime).

It depends on whether or not you have the Organise options turned on. I prefer to have everything in one place and I think iTunes does a really good job of organising things so I have the Organise options turned on. But that's just me. If you don't like it simply turn it off - or not turn it on in the first place.

As for the Playlists I'm not sure what everyone is talking about with them. I have no problems setting up playlists and I use SmartPlaylists all the time.

I never liked WinAMP. On Windows before iTunes became available I always used MusicMatch. WinAMP always felt clunky.

QuickTime handles the playing of files very well, be it audio or video, but it does not have a nice interface for multiple files. Where QuickTime fails in the regard iTunes more than makes up for it.

I think Apple did well with this version of iTunes. But then that's my opinion.
