I just realised I have an SLR camera laying around and spare roll of film, this combined with having nothing to do due to a broken bone may see a new entrant in the event..... even though I have not a clue how to use the thing.

Mountains would be a great theme but you have to remember, not all live near mountains, or in a country that has mountains worth of photography. Of course if you accept older pictures taken in June I could enter the mountain competition, should it be the next theme.

Hey jak, by Action I basically meant Sport. So you may want to get rid of Action in order to reduce the size of the list.

done!

I removed the double entry of "macro" also. Errr, well spotted.

it would be good if we could choose multiple options

jak
25-05-2005, 01:57 PM
why so?

(not meant to be or sound sarcastic).

DOGG

well, i would have chosen cityscape and fire. i reckon it's a lot more flexible if you give people multiple options. in the end the most popular ones would win anyhow.

Elentari

i definately think fire, coz it's just so pretty-like. and then when i get in trouble for burning things i can say, "but it's for a Zgeek's photo competition."

who can argue with that??? :p

jak
25-05-2005, 02:18 PM
See your point. How does the multi choice work? I am guessing that you cant choose every option? Is there a limit (be good to limit to say 3 votes)? I assume you cannot vote more than once (ie once you have chose say 2 options and hit vote, you cant do so again)?

These are the reasons why I have avoided a multi choice poll for both theme and photo voting (better sus it out).
you can't limit the number of choices in a multiple choice poll.
I could be wrong but i didn't see any option. Best create a test poll or ask pirate

I reckon we should try it for the next poll.

But will do a test in the meantime. When creating a poll, can only see options for number of entries; allowing votes to be made public; and mutliple votes or not.

cheers

Oh, and sorry lostreality, but once the poll is up, I cant add anymore nominations. :(

I'm with dogg on the multiple selections, but then if you want cityscape and fire... set fire to a cityscape.

But seriously I do like Fire (as that was my suggestion) but I'd also choose reflection as I've been experimenting on a few subject matters along those lines recently.

So multiple selections in the subject poll is a good idea but leave it out for the actual comp.

VOTE 1 FIRE!

HAL

Vote 1 Ocean!!!

jak

I'm liking macro my self, easy (can shoot in the backyard) and lots of fun.

:)

But Ocean was my second choice.

Photos that are entered must be shot in the same month as the contest right?

jak
30-05-2005, 07:42 PM
Correct. Rules are same as last month ie. Rules (http://forums.zgeek.com/showthread.php?t=34262)

Voted people, it'd be nice to see some good portraiture that doesn't follow the usual "sit and face the camera". Something that tells the viewer what the person is all about.

banga

how about you pick a time that you can take a pic for the next day then walk out the next day at that time and take a pic of the first thing you think looks interesting

30-05-2005, 11:29 PM
This may be a stupid question, but is minor photoshopping allowed? I don't mean photo alteration but just level and brightness adjustments.

The problem with macro is people with shit camera's can not enter.

Yes, that is fine. The link (rules) I posted to your earlier question has *all* the rules.

Great idea.

That is called environmental portraiture and can be excellent, i will certainly vote for that next month.

hehehe no worries :)

Seems we have a draw between "Things starting with W" and "pornography". We could always combine them and have pron starting with W!

:)

Thoughts?

muga
31-05-2005, 03:16 PM
Yea, pornography is a pretty silly subject.. perhaps we should just randomly pick a topic from all the ones selected

jak
31-05-2005, 03:28 PM
If we discard porn, then we must choose the "W" option as it scored the most votes.

asdfjkl
31-05-2005, 04:23 PM
yeah, discard pronography and keep everyone happy. Those wanting to take a picture of something begining with w can, and those into the porn can submit wang shots.

dozer
31-05-2005, 07:03 PM
then ban urban for suggesting it

Mr. Bungle

i would like to take part in the contests, but porn is not the way for me to start this out.

jak
01-06-2005, 03:28 PM
I included pornography as it was nominated. Simple as that. I prefer the comps to be what we all want, not what I want.

Having said, I think I will make "Things beginning with the letter....... "W" as the official theme for 2 reasons. 1. Woman starts with W, so if you really really want to shoot porn you stil can (just of the one sex unless you know a guy named Wayne or Will :) ). 2. One of the rules states "4. Stay with the theme and submit tasteful work.". Of course, porn can be tasteful, but probably not really in keeping with the idea of the contest.

So "Things beginning with the letter....... "W" it is.

:)
