I work for a Sydney-based public neuroscience company and we need to hire another programmer. Our company specialises in the commercialisation of neuroscientific testing equipment, protocols, and analysis. The work will be less involved in interface and more involved in making hardware work.

Basic prereq's are a knowledge of C++ and adaptability. By that I mean that you need to be able to work in Python and possibly other languages. If you have no experience with Python it's ok - just as long as you can be adaptable.

The job will probably be full-time, but it depends partially on the applicant. If you're a gun student, we can probably fit around uni schedules.

Please forward resume's to me if you're interested. If I don't get a zGeeker my boss will be posting in the papers in the next week or so.

Sounds interesting... but since you mentioned Uni students I get the impression that it's more of a "junior" role?

It's by no means a junior role, but a few of our IT guys are students, and being an academically oriented company, students work quite well. I was a student when I started.

The other reason I mention student is that the pay is not likely to exceed $50k.

Are there really no unemployed programmer's in the zGeek community? I thought this was a haven? Where are you, you bastards...?

My housemate might be interested if he wasn't in Europe until August.

Damn uni students and their constant vacations.... Don't they know they should be working for a living?

You might be better off looking at getting a contractor in to do the work on an as-needed basis. For $50K plus super plus payroll tax plus worker's compensation insurance (not sure if that's applicable in NSW) you're looking at getting a programmer that's quite possibly inexperienced and almost certainly under 100% utilised. By hiring a gun contractor to come in when needed you get the benefits of a highly skilled coder and the convenience of only having to pay what you use.
