I tend to prefer the amusing articles or those that might stimulate some discussion. I sincerely hope that's what you meant.

Bulk != intrinsically good.
There has been a trend for the front page to become a mirror for major news sites.
If I want to read smh.com.au or Fark, I can easily go straight to them.
Even a little bit of an original take on these stories would be nice, rather than the nadir of copy/paste that the still included [Advertisement] block represents.

As long as it's interesting or funny, I'm not bothered about speed. It's all about quality, not quantity, baby.

I like it to come bit by bit.
Instead of the same article being at the top of the page for half a day, then all of a sudden another 5 posts appear.
Also, it pisses me off when they arent put into order. ie; newer articles get placed Below older ones and sometimes I miss them!
that is all.

I think this is to do with the time the article is submitted. I'm not a news mod, but I can post straight to the front page, which means that when I post a story, it bypasses "News articles awaiting review". Then if a story is approved later, it get put on the front page in the order it was submitted i.e. before my article, which was submitted with a later timestamp.
Of course I may be completely off base and it's all due to the internet fairies.

Faster is not necessaily better.
Slow is just boring.
I think you've got it just right baby.
All of you ;)
p.s. I actually wanted "Tuesday" as an option. That's my favourite news day.
Are we still doing the fake news Tuesday thing? I think every week makes it kinda tiresome. We should pick a day (23rd in honor of Warnie for example) and every month on that day it would be an unspoken fake news day, to fool the people that don't visit the forums. Making it monthly makes it often enough, but far enough from the previous one to make it seem like an event.
Ooh, good idea 108, rep++!
And I like the frequency of the news posts now, but I like the idea of the posts being less copy/paste and having more of a ZGeek prersonality to them. In the rare occasions when I post news, I'll try to write my own shit from now on :)

I'm all for quantity over quality.
It when the opinions differ (shit hits the fan) and zgeekers get brawling in the thread that makes for the best reading.

Like General Stormin' Norman Schwarzkopf said of the numerical and technical superiority of the coalition forces as against the iraqi forces...'Quantity has a quality all of its own.'

It gets annoying on a slow news day. We need at least 10 posts a day on the from page, but the more the better. I remember a time when the whole front page would be less than 24hours old. Now there is shit from 2 days ago. Perhaps we need more? I would like to get back to front page posting, but I've got m trials at the moment. Perhaps i can help solve the problem at the end of next week when my trials finish...

I think it is fine as is speed wise, but maybe a bit more original stuff. Also, it can be a bit of a pain if you are a pom and nobody looks at the awaiting review for several hours, so it all comes at once.
So, more British news mods to cover the aus time-out? (mememememememe) :-)
*DRUNK* Let me just tell ya *HIC*, Good ol' Zgeek has never been better than *HIC* now! So*HIC*, shove whatever fu*HIC*cking idea of this place in need of *HIC* improvment!!

How about we do something based on rep points or post numbers where you can post it to the front page yaself, instead of waiting a few hours for a mod who may or may not allow it to go front page?
MisterBishi
16-04-2006, 10:12 PM
Because the people with the most rep are not neccesarily the best news posters. It's quite straight forward really.

If it's based on post numbers, Sapia and Nodbugger would have control, and the front page would be nothing but American cheerleading and OMGWoW.

Slower news...
What he said! Even a big "Couch Queen" like myself (and a fast reader/typist) doesn't get enough time to read barely 20% of new stuff in forums - never mind the news as well. News to me is something that happened recently that you just found out, so I wouldn't fuss if the same page stayed up for a week... but that's just my 2 cents.
