Comic books fucking rock and If any of you bastards picks on the comic book guy I'll kick all your fat asses. In the nicest possible way of course.

Seriously though, Comic=geek. If anyone picks on hallmitchell for being a comic geek then your a traitor.

Comic Book Guy (CBG) walks along the road reading a comic book
CBG: But Aquaman, you cannot marry a woman without gills,
you're from two different worlds.
(CBG sees missile approaching)
CBG: Oh, I've wasted my life.

I agree with Pirate, comics are an important part of the geek sub-culture

I'm a huge fan of 2000AD and have a huge collection of them. I also have a heap of phantom comics from the 1960-70 up to 2000. Also have a large asortment of DC and marvel comics. But mainly for me its 2000AD. Thats simply the best comic in the world. I wish I could afford a subscription to them. I have bought a comic in many years :(

2000ad and the Judge Dredd Megazine for me too. Its a shame they are so expensive now. The old man bought them for me when I started grade three to encourage me to read and draw more often. I have been addicted ever since (around twenty years now).

Ahem. Well if I lived in Sydney, I would go, and take my geeky comic books with me!
I dont really know many other people who read em :( so I do like hearing of a bunch of geeks getting together in an appropriatly geeky place and talking about geeky stuff...

I just ordered $120 worth of comic TPBs off Amazon. They are freaking expensive.

After seeing Sin City, I acquired the comics. Then went and found V3 and V4 punisher comics. Next on the list is Batman.

I can admit I have a fair collection of old x-men/force/factor/etc comics (about 500 at a guess) all nicely bagged and ordered etc.

As a young lad I was very proud of my collection, it is all perfectly kept in the cupboard but they havent seen the light of day for a few years now. I got out of it when the x-men went to hell a few years back (maybe 5?).

Any current readers who can tell me where the stories have gone or if they have gotten any better since?

Grab Astonishing X-Men.
Everything else (especially the recent shit by Chris Claremont) is kindling.

I don't have a collection of 2000AD, but there are certainly many classics from the 80's there. I have TPBs of "Block Mania/Tha Apocalype War", and my favourite, Alan Moore & Alan Davis' "D.R. & Quinch's Totally Awesome Guide to Life".

My actual collection consists of mostly DC/Vertigo stuff , "Hellblazer", "Legends of the Dark Knight", "Shadow of the Bat", "The Sandman", "The Dreaming", "Lobo", plus an almost full set of Marvel's "Ghost Rider", series 2.

The only one I still get is "Hellblazer".

Astonishing X-Men is written by Joss Whedon (of Buffy/Angel/Firefly fame). Well worth the money.
I'm sure if Christ Claremont had one book to write he'd be OK, but he's working about 3 or 4 a month and it really shows.

Hooray for these comics! if you like em, then also check out 'Bear' and 'Lenore', they are of the same taste.

I used to read 'Sandman' ( by Neil Gaimen who co wrote a book with Terry Pratchet, 'Good Omens', for anyone who cares, ....I belong at this fore-mentioned meeting...) and 'The Crow' comics also.
