Howdy

I've got a Minolta SLR camera (Dont know the model number at this time), and it has the modern Rifle mount socket on it for lenses (Line up the red dots, turn it counter clockwise about an inch till it locks in place)

I had an old Canon SLR, but it used a thread system on the lense to mount it in (Had to screw it counter clockwise around 7 times to get it fully mounted).

The lense I'd like to use on my new Minolta is a 500 meter telescopic lense that my Dad used to use for wild life photograpy.

Is it possible to get a converter to convert the old lenses to fit onto the new camera?

I've googled this quite a bit and couldn't find anything specific on it, so I thought I'd ask here.

Cheers!

I thought this was about the other SLR. The one Aussie diggers used to smash skulls in that war in Asia. You know the one. Self Loading Rifle. Sorry but your message header confused me. I'll scamper back to my hole, sorry i've been of no assistance what so ever.

kthxbye.

You probably need something like this (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/M42-lens-screw-mount-to-Minolta-MD-camera-Adapter-NEW_W0QQitemZ7535392566QQcategoryZ30059QQssPageNam eZWD2VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

My dad has some old pentax gear that uses M42 screw mount, I was thinking of getting the adapter for my canon eos.

One thing to watch out for with these adapters.. You need to be able manually focus and manually set the aperture on the lens, as autofocus/etc will not work. Does your 500mm have manual aperture controls? The newer lenses tend not to have that. You'll need to use the camera in Manual mode.

I've also heard horror stories from people using various lens mount adapters. When you get the adapter, make sure the mirror won't smash itself onto the lens - just make sure the adapter + 500mm doesn't go any further into the body than your existing lenses.
