Doubt it.
Flickr is actually a good place for photography people to post their pics.
There's a community that will rate and criticise your photos if you let them. From what I hear it's a great way to learn.

Looks good, I'm gonna check it out. Have you had much to do with it or heard much about it Blueboy/gameboy1971?
TrekEarth (http://www.trekearth.com/) is also good for getting advice on your photos. I havent put one of mine up yet but I am going to sooner or later. I have been browsing it for quite a while now and there are some fantastic photos there.

Flickr is free to some extent. It's one of those sites where they try and get you to upgrade by paying and thereby getting more upload allowance per month etc.
I'm a member, here's my scenic photo stream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bostonmess/sets/137980/show/
If anyone's interested.

Really?
/me struts!!!
Thanks mate! I was a bit iffy with some of them because I have trouble deciding how to crop my shots for starters and deciding which ones to upload after that, but, what the hell, I figure I'll never learn if dont put something up.
Somebody gave me a comment before I had even finished uploading the first set so it looks like it was worthwhile from the get go.
Everbody with a flickr account add me to your contacts list so I can ooh and ahh at your pics! I am currently browsing theblueboy during add breaks from the ch10 shark show :D

I suck at cropping shots. I've had a few people see my attempts and help me out though.
Oh, and feel free to tell me if any of my shots don't make your eyes bleed. kthx.

None of them make my eyes bleed :D
I like the way you have cropped the Fertility Idol pic for example with that space to the left, I think showing the setting the statue is in adds to its beauty.
I didnt leave any comments because I wasnt sure what to say but I guess I could have just said the above eh?
Do I get notifications when you put new photos up if we have each other as contacts? I will be putting up a heap over the next few days.

Comment away. I'm not scared. ;)
You don't get notification of new pictures put up by people on your list, but if you click the Your Contracts button you'll see them.

For the last month or so when I get net time I have been browsing through Flickrs 'voted most interesting" section.
Jeez there are some talented people out there, like "holy fucken shit I wish I had one hundredth of their skill!" talented. (is hundredth an actual word?)
I am addicted to browsing that site, there is so much inspiration and creativity in spot it just makes your hands itch to get the camera back in them.
I also noticed once you start adding pics to your favourites your views go up a shiteload, so if you want more thats a good way to do it. That was a lesson I happily learnt one night after favouriting a bunch to show the mrs the next day only to get up and find I had 50 more views during the few hours of sleep I had.
Some of the black and white and infrared shots people have there are just unreal.

I just dump everything I have taken to my flickr account. Free storage 8)... Well 25 bucks a year for up to 240 gig that will still be there if my house burns down. Easy the best offsite backup option I have found yet. Going to go check your stuff now and add you to my contacts.

Gladly reciprocated :D

Do you resize your pics before uploading them or just upload at full size and let flickr worry about the viewing sizes?

18-03-2006, 11:26 PM
I just upload at full size. That way I have a true backup. Flickr handles all that really, really well. The only problem is that if anyone wants to just check some stuff out, there is a lot of crap to wade through. The only reason I hesitate to delete or throw away shots is that what I find mundane other people really like. It is quite strange really.
By the way - love your sunset shots. They are truely amazing.
Hippy Vindalou
18-03-2006, 11:35 PM
Thanks mate ;) Most of them were ones I took when I first got the camera and had no idea what I was doing, I was very, very lucky they turned out like they did. Apart from some cropping there is little to none post processing on the sunset shots. Thankfully we have a good view from the house here and get some very cool sunsets quite often so I have had some more practice since then however I havent captured anything quite like those ones.
If I ever get to Sydney again or Melbourne we should definately have some sort of Zgeek photography excursion.

That's a really good idea. Photography parties. I've got to go and visit a bunch of mates up your way at some stage so if im heading up there I'll give you a yell . I've been meaning to visit them for the last 5 years or so, so don't panic that I'll be on your doorstep tomorrow 8)

Thats awesome, check out the controversy in the comments.
Flickr must be one of the most time consuming sites I have been to second only to this one, I can spend hours just looking and clicking, looking and clicking.

I have close to 2k images on flickr now, and it handled my slashdotting ok too. They have a 30 megapixel limit on images, so I do have to down size my medium format film scans. Otherwise excellent.
