Backstage at Live8 Ricky Gervais was at the side of the stage. Paris Hilton walked up to him and said how much she liked his stuff.
Ricky: “Have we met before?”
Paris “Yes. I’m Paris Hilton”
Ricky “Oh, sorry Paris, I didn’t recognise you without a cock in your mouth.”

THE OFFICE icon will play a studio boss in FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION who commissions a picture known to be dreadful - but an internet rumour begins that it is in the running for some top accolades, convincing the cast that glory days are on their way.
The film, which will also star AMERICAN PIE's EUGENE LEVY and is written and directed by THIS IS SPINAL TAP star CHRISTOPHER GUEST, will begin filming in October (05).

The superstars Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Madonna are all being targeted for starring roles in the second series of the BBC hit comedy Extras.
Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who write and star in the series, gave details of their wish list yesterday during a session at the Edinburgh International Television Festival.

Ricky Gervais has produced a documentary-style recording of his attempts to get A-List celebrities into his show. In the footage, which will be featured on the Extras DVD, he is seen trying to contact actor Leonardo DiCaprio, after Law pulls out.
Gervais said he was not that comfortable with the attention success had brought him. He also recounted a comic moment when he assumed that a Japanese couple who asked him to take a picture on the street wanted him in it. So he put his arms around them, before realising with embarrassment that they wanted him to take the picture of them.

"One of the weirdest things I've ever been asked to consider was a movie where I was supposed to be Will Smith's brother," he said. "I truly don't know if they expected me to black up, but I turned it down anyway. It wouldn't have been particularly PC, would it?"

Ricky Gervais wants to give fans free uncensored comedy on the internet. "A wrong word now could see the station fined - but a podcast would give us free rein."
"It's a step forward in broadcasting, protecting creativity without adverts, ratings or radio authority."
There would be no charge to download the shows featuring Extras star Stephen Merchant. An email on his website RickyGervais.com (http://www.rickygervais.com) (guess you needed to be on the mailing list at the time 'coz I couldn't find anything there related to this) to poll fans' interest reads: "Shows would be a half-hour of new chat each week exclusively online."
If he farted -- would it make this thread? (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/tm_objectid=15948417%26method=full%26siteid=94762% 26headline=ricky%2din%2dweb%2donly%2dchat%2dplan%2 d-name_page.html)

The decision to ban an advert written and starring comedian Ricky Gervais designed to draw attention to prostate cancer has been slammed as a "disgrace" by the charity behind it. The Radio Advertising Clearance Centre (RACC) has ruled that the "squish" noise after a doctor inserts his finger inside a man's rectum is removed and recommended the advert is only broadcast between 21:00 and 06:00BST.
Gervais himself labelled the decision "pathetic" and warned that such a ban could have the opposite effect to the initial aim of the advert, which was to increase awareness of the disease in the at-risk group of men over 50. "One of the reasons that people die of cancer is that they don't get themselves checked," the star of the BBC's The Office said.
"One of the reasons they don't get checked is embarrassment over the issue. The radio authority has actually enhanced this as a taboo and put the cause back."

Well, Ricky wasn't talking out of his arse back then - the podcast idea has gone ahead and is available from today at the Guardian newspaper's website::
Episode 1 December 5 2005
In which Ricky, Steve and Karl discuss ... the pros and cons of technological invention, leading on to Karl's Malthusian concerns and a possible solution. There's a digression into the extra sensory perception of early hominids. Oh, and some Monkey News of course. Plus strange tales about lethal drinking vessels and stately homes.
You can download it here (http://www.guardian.co.uk/rickygervais) :grouphug:
I finally got a chance to listen to that podcast, and it's fucking hilarious. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard from a podcast before. You ought to make a news post about this so more people know about it.

Just a reminder that another half-hour podcast will be posted at The Guardian's website tomorrow (MOnday Decemebr 12)...

getting episode 2 now :)
It was still hilarious, but I'm starting to feel bad for Karl. He can't get two words out before Ricky and Steve are doubleteaming him down. He pretty much made the first episode, they need to cut him some slack. :(
Just a reminder: episode 3 was posted at the Guardian on Monday. If you're interested, go and download it. If you're not, don't.
This series is set to run for 12 weeks.
