I dont know about you, but this year, I have been sick 4 times already from a very nasty flu that has made me bed-ridden. Its fucking ridiculous. To make matters worse, in both jobs I do people have also been repeatedly sick with the same condition. My family at home, our friends, all the same nasty virus.
This coming from someone who, until this year, got sick no more than once a year, and that was usually a mid-year minor flu. I live in Sydney, so im especially keen to hear from Sydneysiders.
Is there an epidemic taking place that isnt being reported for fear of panic? Sure seems that way.

I'm in the US but my brother still lives in sydney, the last time I spoke to him was about 4 weeks ago, he and his wife were laid up in bed sick as dogs with flu type symptoms.
They were sick for about 2 weeks with it.
I personaly have not been sick in over 7 years, 7 fucking years of not being able to take a sick day!
No wonder I bloody drink.

I am glad to say I don’t really know anyone who has had such a bad case of the flu this year and I live in Sydney. I had the flu shot for the first time this year because I always catch everything that is going around.
I hope you feel better soon. I hate the being ill.

As much as I hate injections, there is no doubt that next year I will be following your advice. I thought that work took me as a slacker until everyone at work was getting the same sickness over and over. There is at least one person sick in our crew of 20 ever day, and this includes managers.
It does seem to be particularly bad this year. Thing I've noticed is it's not just getting the flu once and you're sorted. Like you mentioned, there seems to be a few of the bastards running around helping eachother out!

I work in Sydney and there was a nasty flu-type thing going around about a month or two ago. Quite a few people from work were off sick, but I caught it anyway - right in the middle of my Uni exams, too.
I'm generally pretty healthy: when I get a cold it's usually pretty mild and I get over it quickly, within a few days. But this virus was so much worse, I spent about a week in bed, I got fever and chills, my joints ached, my skin hurt (to the extent that even taking a shower was painful), I was really tired and slept a lot and I lost my voice and had the coughing/sneezing/runny nose element as well.
Not fun at all.
I'm in south east qld but anyway... I got fucked on cronic, absolutely hammered, after about 2 weeks I ate some antibiotics and came good within a day. I've been kinda sick for the last week, but only a minor cold kinda thing (prob because i spent the last two weekends in a row driving for 16 hrs and surfing for 8 hrs in the freezing cold), feeling pretty good now though.

A lot more people than usual seem to have been sick lately. I've had two colds, tonsilitis and awful sinusitis twice this year. Other people have been a lot worse off though.
As a side note, it really pisses me off when someone who only has a cold says they've got the flu. No, you do not have the flu, if you had the flu you would not be talking to me, you would be curled up in bed wishing to cease existing. Real flu deserves great sympathy, cold 'flu' deserves a smack over the head.

i'm in Sydney but I haven't been sick for a couple of years. There's been no real amount of absences from others at work

We've constantly got people going on and off work because of stupid things like colds and gastro. But when you're dealing with grotty gamblers who don't wash their hands in a 18-hour period, you kinda expect it. :(
