Will anyone bother reading it? I think that the series started going downhill after book 6 (Lord of Chaos) and the last one released, which I can't be bothered remembering the title of - was a piece of shit.

The thing that makes me consider buying it is this: Jordan requested a full editorial process on this book - something that hasn't been done since the first few in the series. Also, I think he would have to be blind and deaf not to have noticed the outcry after the last book, and hopefully will have changed his approach for this one.

No chance. Jordan lost me at Path of Daggers. They should put a law in to prevent whacko fantasy writers releasing more than 5 books in a series.

Almost requires a different thread, but a book release I *am* excited about is the new George R.R. Martin one - A Feast for Crows. I'm going to order it from amazon.co.uk because it gets released in the UK a month earlier than the US.

It reached it peak at number 3 or 4. After that should have been one or maybe two more books where rand battles the big bad guy and saves the day.

I can't wait either, even though it's only half of the book.

No Jon chapters in this one :(

Edit: And to stay on-topic. Jordan lost me at around book 4 or 5. THE WAGON ISN'T THAT DAMN INTRESTING!

I will get both, the Robert Jordan one just because ive got the first fucking ten and once I start collecting something, I want the complete fucking set.

The George R.R. Martin one on the other hand will be a fucking pleasure to buy.

Yup

I'm rereading them at the moment

Hopefully he can end it before he dies.

In my opinion the only character I really liked after the first six books was Mat. Then in book 7 and every book thereafter Jordan's turned him into a whiney pussy. I don't like reading the Egwene or Elayne chapters, all that bloody sniffing gets on my nerves. Rand is just about round the bend...it's only a matter of time before the Maidens find him smearing shit on the walls. And Perrin...if I was him I'd leave his harridan of a wife with the Shaido and run back to the Two Rivers.

Oh god, the torment returns. Being the masochist I am, I'll no doubt trudge through it only to be insanely bored/disappointed come the finish.

The Wheel Of Time travesty is greater in length than the history of our own entire planet.

George R. R. Martin (ditch one of the middle R's, champ) is a damn fine writer, and I was with 'A Song Of Ice And Fire' right up to halfway through the most recent, 'A Storm Of Swords', but the story isn't going anywhere. There's no longer any hook. It's just going on and on and according to Martin he isn't even halfway there yet. Sorry George, but you need to find a fresh song before you turn into the next Jordan.

Bloody Robert "I did it all for the cash" Jordan!

I used to love the series, I started when #2 had just come out and used to re-read the entire series before any new book came out. I thought book 6 was fantastic, especially the ending, and then along came 7. what a steaming pile of shit. I thought "hrm could just be a glitch", then came 8, and 9. Oh dear, crap crap crap and more crap.

I agree with the "I like your old stuff better than your new stuff" call for Mat. The new Mat is a pansy. I didn't buy the prelude book and won't be buying the new one thats coming out.

I have better things to do with my time than reading 50 pages describing Perrin walk across a campsite.

The new book was a huge improvement over the last 4. Stuff actually happened for a change, and Jordan seemed to realise somewhere in writing it, that he doesn't need to describe every mile they walk, and he can actually come back to them once they've gotten someplace interesting.

I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it, but I will say, it seems there are a lot of lesbians. I mean other books have had very brief and vague mentions that sometimes people do that sorta thing, but within the first hundred or so pages you have two of the Forsaken ladies fondling each other, and word of a few Maidens of the Spear shacking up with their female gaishain. And for the rest of the book, chatting about 'pillow friends' is quite common, even Elaida.

And for the first time there's real hope he's going to finally bring Moiraine back. Moiraine is awesome, I would love to see her and Cadsuane having it out.

Anyways, good book. Anyone who's stuck with the series thus far will find it a good read.

Wheel Of Time was getting really good after the 6th book with the Asha'man pwning everything in sight. Then 7 felt like a ripoff of one of the earlier ones. Then 8,9,10 were complete and utter shit and which caused me to yawn through them. Then 11 and 12 (I'm starting to lose count here) where completely so off track they didnt even feel like Wheel Of Time books.

Wheel Of Time got fucked up ever since they introduced the Sean'Chan or whatever u call them. And Jordan confused me pretty hardcore, first I thought they were asians, then he described them as having black skin. So what the fuck are they? Chinese culture with African people? Wtf?

And with the last 2 WoT books if you were to ask me to write a summary of what happened in them I seriously couldn't because NOTHING HAPPENED. I have no fucking idea how someone could write around 1,000 pages where nothing happened at all. The plots going nowhere.

There are a lot of bitter bitter ex robert jordan fans out there.

He really sold his fans down the river and I think he has lost a shitload of credibility

The new book has redeemed Robert Jordan, proving that when he isn't out to ream people for as much money as he can, he can still sit down and provide a fucking good story. And D3kst3r, how can you have read 11 and 12 when he has only just released 11 now? How many times do I need to say this about the series?

1-3 = Awesome
4-6 = Average
7-9 = Poor
10 = Average
New Spring (prequel about Moiraine and Lan first getting together) = Average
11 = Above Average

And now all I have to wait for is the new George R. R. Martin book, which if he is true to form, should blow me away.

I read them a long time ago. After about book 6 I really can't remember how many there are besides there are around 10. I just remember the last 2 (before the new book) were totally piss poor.

I think I fell off the wagon about book 5 or 6. I wouldn't mind getting back into it, but I hate, HATE books where nothing happens. Should I jump back on, picking up where I left off, or re read the entire 73 books or whatever it is to get updated?

Personally I am hanging out for the next Raymond Feist book, "Flight of the Nighthawks". My all time favourite author and own all books, most in hardback, including a signed faux leather bound copy of Magician

I think for the last 3 books (before Knife of Dreams) he has been simply going through the motions. So many times during the last book there were just pages and pages of meaningless shit. And so many people bitched about it in every way possible, that I finally think he realised he was losing his fanbase.

*This* book, however, reminds me of the early ones. Stuff actually happens, we don't get 5 paragraph descriptions of what people are wearing and he's started to repair some of the damage done to the main characters. Unfortunately not Rand though...he's still as much a wanker in this book as the last two.

And yes, I'm gearing up for the next book by George R.R. Martin - you know though, that it's been divided into certain geographical areas. Some character POV's won't appear in it at all - for example - Jon, Tyrion, Danerys are all in the next book. Still, it should be better than Jordan.

I've been re-reading the Song of Ice and Fire series again for the new book. Who are going to appear in Feast for Crows? I really want the next chapters of Jon, Tyrion, and Arya.

And fuck Danerys, the stupid bitch

WoT was pretty shit after reading about 2000 pages where all they talked about was: "straightened dress, adjusted hair, that skirt is too short etc." Robert Jordan writes like a 16 year old cheer leader girl sometimes and it just shits me off.

My biggest problem with the new WoT book is that he didn't follow the same thing that he did at the beginning and the end that he did through the other books.

That thing being? I forget, it's been ages since I read rj's trash and have managed to successfully block most of the later books from my memory, as far as I am concerned the series ended after book 6

I think Feast for Crows covers Dorne, Kings Landing, the Iron Islands and all the way up to Riverrun. So any characters that are within that geographical area will be in. Apparently Arya who was last on her way to Braavos is in there as well.

A Dance With Dragons takes care of the rest of the POV's during the same timeframe.

And back to Knife of Dreams - I think if anyone wants to read parts of the prologue and chapter one, there is a sample available:

As it was mentioned the last book pissed me off. I doubt I have enough time to read every fucking book again just to catch up on the last one. Maybe I will wait 20 years when he is dead and then buy them all to catch up.

Though the series did kick ass at the beginning.

:mdr: So you are really only 3/4 of the way through the Prologue :)

I am now up to about page 270 and enjoying it... Hell I hear all your biatchin' but I can still manage to read them. The stubbornness in me won't allow the reading of 10 books and then ditching the series... Somebody help me! I can see me reading Book 25 thinking "It has to end soon yes?"

Book Eleven has been the best of the last five books. I guess RJ's retirement is safe with me.
