Ceiling Light is very interesting
Entry #3 is massive. isn't there a 1024x restriction in place?
i like 10, 3 and 2, all good.
them there picks all rule
Entry #3 is massive. isn't there a 1024x restriction in place?
Fixed.
Yes there is. I just didn't notice. The Zgeek image gallery won't accept any images greater than 1024 on its longest side, so I usually notice any I have missed then. But I had to host the images myself again, hence it slipped through.
cheers for the heads up :)
edit: Note to next months entrants - be sure to resize to 1024 pixels on the longest size. And please don't forget titles!
I'm gonna post it in big letters again, because i know people don't read.

3, 6, 8, 10, 14 and 19. These are so amazing, there are some really talented zgeekers out there.
Do we have a news item to announce that the vote is up?
not yet. I get Hippy Vindalou to post the front page news item for the contests (he does an excellent job). He probably hasnt had a chance to read his PMs or get online yet.
He will most likely have it done tonight sometime - he is usually very prompt with getting the news post up.
:)
Good stuff :)

Highest overall standard for one of these comps EVER!
Thank Yoda for multiple voting because I think I would have abstained from voting if I had to pick just one.
Remember entrants, when voting is over tell us which was yours and how/why you took it. I cant give you any of my hot rep loving with special sauce if you dont tell us who you are.
EDIT- If you didnt get an entry in for whatever reason but have a photo on the months theme to share feel free to post them here like Hiredgoon has done. The more the merrier!

The voting has finished and at Hippy's request:
My photo was #3. Sorry about the large size, I did not correctly remember Stygians dimension ruling (the shot is 1024 across, not longest).
It was taken late in the afternoon when the sky was heavily polarised against the wall of this internal courtyard. The colours of the afternoon were much stronger than in the shot, so this has taught me a bit more about colour balance in my monitor and on the camera.
The shot was really about the very rich blue of the sky and the rich orange of the building.
Because of the clear day the lines of demarcation were very sharp, added to by the contrasting grey of the other wall and the lines of the panneling and downpipe.
My votes went to 6, 7 and 10.
My preference is slightly for poles, but congratulations to #7, a close, but deserved victory.
I liked #6 because of the excellent use of perspective to incorporate the disparate vertical elements into the one theme with no one thing being immmediately visually dominant, but allowing further contemplation to sort out the nature and true proportion of the structure.
#7 I could not separate in quality in a meaningful way from #6. It is another excellent use of perspective and brings out the razor lines of the building in a fantastic way te really suggest skyscraping.
#10 is an excellent use of light (sun and artificial) with beautiful geometry and crispness of line. It is an important reminder of the role of the architect as an interior designer and a creator of form as well as space and function.
For the next comp, I have had no ideas, but it will be hard to improve my place against such stiff competition.

I took number 14 - Hive.
From my point of view it's defintely not my best work, but thanks to everyone who voted for me.
The shot is of a Government building here in Melbourne. I'd spotted the shot weeks ago but only got a chance to take it the day before the competition ended.
I used a Ricoh Caplio G4Wide to take the photo. The focus length is a bit funny in that camera, so I'll be going back to the Canon A40 for this month's entry.

10 - Ceiling Light , was mine.
I took it while I was in Paris at the Louvre, just walking around. That building has so much amazing work in it, maybe it inspired me somewhat. This is a ceiling light on the 3rd floor near the Napoleon III apartments.
I found it very striking in its simplicity and just took one picture of it. It was a quick shot, but I was careful with the framing. Very little post adjustment on it (actually I think there was none other than some cropping).
Great work this month and i hope the photo contest sees similar responses next month. Perhaps the response to this topic will encourage more realistic topic suggestions in the future so that lots of people (like me who don't participate as often) take part more often.
I voted for 8. I really liked the framing of it and how it completely isolated the building from the rest of the world. It has a very appropriate title. I also liked BB's Hive photo.. is there a color version of it? Hairyman's line and color is also nice, but i agree with his assessment of the need for better contrast.
Enjoyed all the work this month :)

pwned joo allz!!!!1!111!
but seriously, im very suprised i won, they were all excellent entries, thanks to everyone who voted, especially everyone who voted for my shot.
it was taken at canary wharf and thats 1 canada square, the tallest building in the docklands or london central. it took a while to line the centre of that column with the exact side of the building and its still not right, but i didnt have a tripod so im happy with the result. ill post some near misses and some other stuff i took on the day.
thanks also to all who entered.

I took number 8, it was taken in Seville Spain. It is the worlds biggest cathedral. I will create a gallery of my other pictures now that the photo competition is over.
Edit: Voted Skyscraping, Poles, Hive, Ceiling light, Work in progress.
The skyscraper reminds me of the combine fortress in Half-Life 2.

Not sure I should own up but I submitted number 4. My excuse, and I'm sticking to it, is that at lunch I was taking my camera to be fixed and had no time to take a real shot so I just snapped that one. I appologise and promise not to do that again, ever. Top effort by everyone else though! Truely some fantastic stuff. I Voted 5,6,7,8 and 11 with 8 and 11 being my favourites.
Edit: You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to dozer again.
I'll catch you up soon. Congrats!

#5 - tenements in paradise was mine.
like urban, i'm gonna post some of my other possible entries later. i took so many photos for this months competition, i don't know how i settled on one. for the past 2 and a half weeks i have been abroad, in tokyo and china.
tokyo presented so many cool opportunities architecturally oriented photos (odaiba - tokyo harbour, shinjuku govt building), but struth, how cool is china?!
as i type this is i am sitting in a cafe in yangshuo, guangxi province in southern china. anyone who has been here or to guilin will be familiar with the kick-arse mountains that are everywhere around here. i took heaps of photos of old-school chinese buildings and slum-type buildings, all framed by these ridiculous mountains.
i also took photos at the forbidden city in beijing.
in the end, i guess i settled on tenements in paradise because of the symmetry.

Mine was #15
It was taken the night of RiverFire in Brisbane, was just a practice shot to get focus and all ready for the fireworks, but I liked the way the cranes worked against the sky, would have also been a good submission for the silhouette competition.
Was taken on a Canon EOS-300D, can't remember the setting right now as photo is at home.
it's not the best architecture shot but I still thought i'd submitt something for once

Thanks to the 24 who voted for #19.
The subject is the Telekom building (http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?b125) in Kuala Lumpur.
The photo was take with a handheld Kodak C330 (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Kodak/kodak_c330.asp) (basic 4 MP point & shoot) about 2 hours before submission deadline.
Post-shoot enhancements were
1. cropping a bit off the top of the top & bottom of the photo,
2. ACDSee (v.6?) auto edit function &
3. resizing to 1024 pixels
The subject was chosen because it was the closest place I cold get to that offered a reasonably interesting view at street level. Here is another (http://gallery.zgeek.com/details.php?image_id=11968&) photo of the building that was nearly submitted for the comp. In the end the symmetry & colours of the actual entry won swung the choice.
Edit: I thought the standout photos this month were #6 (good enough to be a desktop screenshot), #7 (love how the centre corner becomes translucent at the top), #10 (inventive interpretation of the theme) & #14 (very stark, reminds me of those commie concrete blocks). I'd also like to know what #9 is.

Attached is the original unedited photo (all 780kbs worth). The colours were somewhat enhanced by ACDSee. The building is sorrounded by large halogen light things on the street that light up the building at night.
i reckon too much editing is allowed. colours. balance, brightness. it's all too much especiall for people who don't know how to do that stuff.
