Topic is self explanatory... In a fast paced life that we live in; and being single nerd/geeks that we are; not having anyone care enough to cook us food, we often get the short end of the stick and have to survive on mal nutritious or outright unedible food (You know you're in trouble if tomato (or tabasco (http://forum.zgeek.com/showthread.php?t=42551)) sauce becomes the main meal).

This is an attempt to win back some self dignity.

Anything decent (not 2 min noodles and the sort, but can utilise 2 min noodles) that can be cooked and/or prepared in the little time we get while battlefield loads again on my slow ass system!

Beef Salad. I make this a lot because it is easy and I reckon it better than just having a steak on a plate surrounded with salad. Approx time including cleanup about 10minutes.

Basically all I do is cook a nice bit of rump steak. Has to be fairly thick and I don't like it killed. Medium rare is my choice but this is obviously up to the individual.

Whilst this is cooking I make the salad and I cheat. Woolies have these packs of different lettuce leaves all together. It has different coloured lettuce, miniture spinach, endives etc in it. I chuck that in a large bowl with a punnet of cherry tomatoes some diced capsicum, grated carrot, cucumber, corriander and spanish onion.

When the steak is cooked slice it up in thin strips and chuck that into the bowl with the salad. Then get a bottle of sweet chillie sauce and pour in as much as you want/like depending on taste. Then I just use my hands and toss it all about mixing everything together, stick on a plate and viola, dinner.

Chips. These little fellas go with steak and salad perfectly. See above :) I rummage around in the potato bin for the oldest potatoes I can find. I like the ones you get that have all the dirt on them best. If they have things growing out of them perfect.

Peal, clean then dice into about 1cm cubes. Be rough and nasty. Turn the oven to its highest and then throw them into a preheated baking tray with say a table spoon or so of vegetable oil. Give em a stir until coated with oil then shake steak spice all over them (stiring so all sides have some on them) and cook until ready. Also slightly burnt bits are good. Makes it tastier I reckon. Serve on the side with heaps of salt and pepper. Thats it and the big bonus is there is no oil to clean up/deal with. Note: spread evenly in the pan and give em a shake every so often to stop sticking. Takes about 10minutes if oven is prewarmed.

I find canned soup with cream added and some toasted bread is quite quick and nice.

Also here's a nice recipe for nachos. Get some nachos in a bowl, put it in the microwaves so that they're heated. After that get some cheese(mozarella I prefer) and a cheese grater to grate the cheese to sprinkle on the nachos.
Now since the nachos are rather warm, they'll melt the cheese. Now add some Dolmio tomato paste(the stuff they use to make pasta).
A voila, gourmet nachos.

Fettucini bosciaola (sp)

Onion, Mushrooms, bacon, chives, pasta, cream, cheese

chop up onion, bacon, chives, mushrooms
Brown the onion, chuck in the bacon, when it smells bacon like chuck in the mushies and chives, move it around till you smell the chives and the bacon

Season with some pepper and salt at any point, i usually do it now because ive forgotten earlier..

Chuck in the cream, move it round again till things go golden, add some cheese (parma is great but any will do its just to flavor and thicken)

Cook the pasta, serve. (of course depending on the pasta depends on the time)

10-15mins tops.. (not quite 5 but a damn sight more hearty than cheese toasties :P)

Cook some pasta (spaghetti probably works the best), drain, and then stir through some lime juice, olive oil, garlic, and chilli bean paste (from the Asian supermarket). Add parmesan/romano if desired. Tastes fucking fantastic, and will only take you a very short time to prepare.
