Well, im starting to suffer withdrawl symptoms. I was in Montreal a month back and had some bloody awesome bagels from this place that makes them on site. Now I am seriously desiring said bagels.
Do any of the Quebeqois or maybe even New Yorkers have a tried-and-tested recipe that tastes even similar to the stuff you can buy in Montreal or New York?
Lots of rep love for delivered goods.

I've made bagels before with varying success. Just make a nice easy bread dough ( see jaimie oliver books for foolproof bread dough ).
1 kg strong flour, 3 sachets yeast, 600ml tepid water, glug of honey and a good dash of salt, mix well and knead. Leave to rise to double. Bash air out.
Shape into bagel shape. this can be don by making thin sausages out of dough and joining the ends togehter, or making round buns and using something to punch out the middle. leave to rise to about 1.5x
put into boiling water. I can't remember how long, but I think they float or something when they're ready.
put into preheated oven and cook until golden.
I'm not sure how these will rate to montreal bagels but they're not bad. Also master the basic bread recipe, it's super easy and can be used for pizza, foccacia, plain bread, herbed bread, etc etc etc. I even roll up left overs in dough and cook it. I usually use a wholegrain/multigrain flour unless it should be obviously white ( dessert breads etc ). Try spreading nutella over dough rolling it up and baking it... yummy :)
