Hi all,
The November theme has been decided.
Theme: "Caustics".
So what is Caustics, I hear you say. Well, dictionary.com says:
"The enveloping surface formed by light rays reflecting or refracting from a curved surface, especially one with spherical aberration".

Thats not it at all.
The caustics are referred to as the refraction pattern formed by highly transparent objects such as a glass of fluids which have a certain degree of Total internal reflection, for example the light falling on a glass filled with wine will form some strange patterns of different colours and intensity which are referred to as light caustic. The computer method for Caustic calculation is also referred to as photon mapping. The photon lamp in Blender/Yafray is for this purpose only. I even posted a sample pic on the nomination thread to avoid confusion.

That'd be why I highlighted definition number 3. Did you read that bit? Not meaning to be rude, but its the exact same thing you said.
Besides, its up to the photographer to interpret the theme their own way.
Caustic and caustics are different things.
I think you will find most dictionaries define caustic and caustics as one and the same. You yourself have use both caustics and caustic in your own definition.
Also, my example link seems to follow your preferred definition. :)

Personally, I would find a lack of entries disappointing. But I prefer to remain positive rather than assume the worst before the comp has even started.

I did read it but no corrosive chemicals etc were included in my nomination. I don't see any burning or melting in my sample picture. I think I was pretty exact in what I meant. I posted that definition in the earlier nomination threads too so it should be clear by now. No offense taken by the way.

If I submit something and it isn't quite on theme, will y'all let me know (nicely :) )? I have an idea, but am not 100% sure if it falls into the definition (too many big words in that definition...)
kthxbye

Just the one entry so far. But thats typical. I never get entries this early in the month (maybe one max). They usually start arriving in the last 7 days or so of the month.
Have a look at some examples (http://images.google.com/images?q=caustics&sourceid=opera&num=_i&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&sa=N&tab=wi) for inspiration!

If only the fucking sun would show itself in newcastle i could get my planned shot, but so far no luck, and not much time left to get film processed and scanned :-(

Couldn't come up with anything for this
I think I only voted for it to shut the person who kept nominating it up.
