From the people who brought you Jam Vs Marmalade, comes a new battle that could change the fate of human kind everywhere but will probably jst serve as a means to keep me from the brink of insanity.
In the red corner we have the classic, the big cheese, the original CHEESE ON TOAST!!!
and
In the blue corner we have the new kid on the block, the melt, the filling CHEESE TOASTIE!!!
FIGHT!

I was in a "diner" in Southern Illinois once and saw Milktoast on the menu. Not being able to imagine that it was just milk on toast I asked the waitress what it was. She looked at me an in a Southern drawl said "You 'aint from around here are you sweetie?".

Yeah, it was milk poured over toast. Duh. The cheese over toast looks good.

Toasties - sometimes known as "jaffles" - are great when filled with stuff out of a tin, like braised steak and onions, or spagetti in tomato sauce ...

I shall try these jaffles this morning for breakfast.

Jaffles are best cooked over a campfire in the bush using a JAFFLE IRON (http://www.discountcamping.com.au/index/products/castiron/cooking?PHPSESSID=71d4ef69a5803820b156564a41c8a017 #728) :D

You can also cook a jaffle with baked beans, but I don't like baked beans so I've never had one so cannot tell you what they are like. But the braised steak and onions is yummy, especially when you also put in some cheese.

Actually the greatest cheese on toast recipe I've had is:

Cheese(as much as you like)
worcestershire sauce(1 tsp)
tomato sauce (2 tblsp)

And if you like some chopped onion and in my case 2 tblsp of dijon mustard too. Melt it all together in a microwave and spread it on the toast or put it in a toastie. Delish!

um, is a toastie just a grilled cheese sandwich? ...

Anyways, if a toastie IS just a grilled cheese sandwich I highly recommend eating it with strawberry jam.... YUM!

Cheese on Toast is the supreme ruler of the universe, but only if you put vegemite on it first.

So to recap.... Toast, spread on vegemite, put on cheese, GRILL!!!!!

I challenge you Toastie infidels to beat that recipe for breakfast goodness!!

Toastie =Jaffle.
Now if you want something really good: butter two slices of bread, lay tasty cheese on both and sprinkle with Tunisian Tabil. Grill.
Fold them on to one another and grill the outside of both slices.

Toasted Cheese Sandwich of the Gods.

What you guys are calling a toastie looks like what we call grilled cheese, and from the jaffle iron it looks like I'm correct. Now grilled cheese is wonderful with thick soups like tomato or cream of mushroom and can be delicious topped with jelly or jam, or with mustard.

The other looks like cheese toast which can be topped with ham, bacon, tomato or any number of wonderful things, and also goes well with soup.

So both are delicious and nutritious.

Ah, well if they're grilled cheese, then I'm giving it two thumbs up. I was wondering what teh hell a jaffle was.

A jaffle is a toastie and a toastie is basically a sandwich that has been sealed through heat using a toatie maker. Its a toasted sandwich with melted cheese in the middle simple !

It's always been just a jaffle to me.

What really annoys me though is when people call it a Breville, breville is just the name of a company that makes kitchen appliances(& invented designed obsolescence), they weren't even the first ones making electric jaffle irons, Sunbeam were.

In our house jaffles/toasties are called flat Stanleys. (the kids like to think that we sqished Stanley up(from a book) and made a sandwich - so I usually include ham and sauce with the cheese for them. Also - whatever you put in it YOU MUST BUTTER THE OUTSIDE OF THE BREAD!!! No-one wants the healthy option if your eating melted cheese, and it's damn good!

TheBloatedFish

It is true please do butter the outside cause honestly who needs good health when you have a tasty toastie/jaffle/grilled cheese/flat stanley.

It's called a jaffle not a toastie, and they're great with spaghetti from a tin. Cheese on toast is better with Tomato and Ham, using a good tasty cheese. If it's just cheese use that Kraft single stuff that bubbles up because that tastes nicer. Don't bother making a jaffle with just cheese because you need to make it with spaghetti from Heinz.
