Is it time for Movius to be removed a news mod?

There comes a time in life when people should just move on in their endeavours, and I think it's time for Movius to step down as a news mod as his insipid, egotistical and arbitrary vetting of submissions absolutely reeks of someone who hates what he does.

Just sift through the rejected news dump and check out the ones deposited there by Movius. To be fair, Movius does append a reply explaining why they were rejected, which is more than some take the trouble to do, but far too often, when they aren't the ubiquitous "repost", these take the form of pissant insulting comments. Even those he does deem worthy quite often get posted to the front page with a customary dickwad remark, as if to start the ball rolling on a slag fest directed toward the member who took the trouble to dig up and submit the post.

Don't get me wrong. With the volume of news that gets submitted to ZGeek, there's bound to be stuff that needs to be refused because it's old, a repost, offensive, or just not news. But clearly Movius takes a special joy in the rejection aspect, to the point of going so far as to hand out neg rep and blatant insults to the submitter.

Is this what we want here at ZGeek? Mods that go out of their way to shit all over people who feed the front page?

Time to step down Movius. Be dignified about it and go quietly while you still have some self esteem left.

This site's tard par excellence replaced one of my news items with "blah blah blah blah".

He added an image invoking a village idiot in another of my submissions.

And a third submission was met with a condescending remark, attacking my intelligence. All three of these 'news' idiocies were posted at the same time.

I had no way of knowing that I was doing anything wrong, since I had posted similar items the week before. My violation was having quoted 3 news stories from the same URL address (although these were AP stories which means they appeared in most major dailiies at different URLs -- basically, he wouldn't have had an issue with them had they been quoted from 3 separate sources).

Rather than sending me a PM, he made a giant vomit-splash on the front page and left it there for hours, while I had to explain in each news forum that I wasn't the one who posted garbage but their friendly editor Movius.

Movius eventually sent me a message -- in the form of a neg-rep PM.

I had never interacted with him before and didn't even know he existed.

In addition, the rules regarding news submissions state that if anything you submit is unacceptable, it is simply rejected.

Nope. I've had my fair share of rejections, including some by Movius, and when the issue at hand is because it's a repost, I just say oops and move on. I, like (I think) many here, am careful about what I submit. There's a lot of shit I stumble across that at first glance I think might be interesting here, but I give it a pass because I try to think about what the readers here want to see.

I've noticed that in not only my posts but the posts of others that Movius seems more interested in getting snide comments over supporting contributors (posters).

Is that what Mods are supposed to be doing?

Those people that look at ZGeek, or use the RSS feed are going to see the updates when new(s) is posted to the front page, that's going to bring them back more often. So not posting news to the front page is doing ZGeek a DISservice. The more people come here, the more hits and the more viable the site is as a $ maker. Also there are a lot of people that don't really get past the front page, a new person just told me that was their case for a long while and I also didn't see past the front page for some time. Enticing people to contribute and ultimately subscribe should be a goal here, unless Pirate is supposed to be shouldering the cost of this site all by his lonesome. Which I don't think is cool at all.

I don't think that a Mod should coddle anyone, and if someone submits a post that has errors or issues, then certainly the Mod aught to PM them or encourage correction. If the person does the same thing repeatedly, then obviously they are either retarded or ignorant as Hell and need lambasted. My observations are that Movious skips the first step and gets his jollies doing the second. Even well submitted posts seem to have a "I'm gonna' get the last word in..." tone after a Movius edit. One n00b recently told me that they are intimidate as Hell because of the comments they have seen.

Let's look at the bigger picture here folks, by name alone, Mods are to Moderate. Mods are not intended to Interfere, Stagnate, Nit-Pick or Subvert in the big scheme of things. If they were, they'd be called Ints, Stags, Nits or Subs... Hippy, SOC, Moses and Sapia have actually made comments to me that corrected my errors in an encouraging manner, which of course makes a ZGeeker want to post, at least it did me. That's what I would think Mods should be doing.

I think that Haggisboy has a valid point. I think that in the spirit of contribution Movius's behavior is against the grain of what ZGeek is all about and being encouraging rather than discouraging would benefit Everyone. Of course from what I've read there aren't too many people that want to speak out against a Mod. I don't consider speaking out being "against" since speaking out for the ZGeek Community is the most appropriate direction.

If the standard is that you get out of something what you put into it, then I know for certain that I'm not the only one that puts a lot of time in here. (granted some is totally pointless) Overall though, my goal here in posting and contributing is to support ZGeek as a community, contribute to it as a community and learn from what others have to contribute. Anyone that contributes negatively coutners the efforts of everyone, and that is wrong.

Judging from the posts here, and some of the +rep comments that have come in, clearly there is a disgruntled faction that is tired of Movius' handling of news submissions.

Then there are those who, for whatever reason think he's boffo, either because they are mods themselves and fear having to pick up the slack, or are good buddies with Movius, or just don't contribute to the news feed enough and thus see nothing wrong with what he's been doing.

Then there are the sycophantic suck ups who perhaps feel that siding with a mod is good politics.

Then, of course, there's Kleph who is still lighting candles underneath that picture of a South American dictator while muttering voodoo chants about free speechers burning in hell. :D

I think this thread has had a good run. It's allowed me to exchange some quality PMs and e-mails with other ZGeekers, all of them positive except one - which provided some comedic amusement for it's slag fest qualities alone.

Suffice to say there appears to be more out there that are sympathetic with my original views expressed in this thread than have felt courageous enough to post here. Such is life.

Let's just hope this can serve a better good by making ZGeek a better place to post.

There are some cool-looking hammers out there these days. These fist-size lumps of highly polished steel with wicked-looking claws and long, shaped handles are great—if you frame walls for a living.
