I thought the story with those hookers and the guy with the red sneakers was good. And the one with Elijah Wood as a cannibal was also good. Can't wait to see the extended version.

He means to say that there is an already in existance thread of the Sin City Speaking and Appreciation, of all the comical comic scenes, with the big guy and the meat pie and the explosions and the hey hey hey, by jingo.

I got my son the Unrated Extended edition for Christmas and it has some neat features. Disc one has the original theatrical version disc two has the chronological version, there is also an all green screen version. The graphic novel "The Hard Goodbye" is also included.

I have the bear bones edition and I'm comfortable with that.
The movie I saw at the cinema was fucking awesome. I own that edition, therefore the edition I own is fucking awesome.
I also own several of the comics and have what I don't own on cDisplay.
I also own the bear bones editions of Lord of the Rings and each of them is fucking awesome. I may yet go out and waste $90 on the ultra-extended edition pack, but I'm not convinced yet.

You're going to hate me but I was actually a little disappointed with it. Visually I couldn't fault it, and the stories were almost 100% true to Miller's originals...
But.
As a student of acting I was let down. The performances were not up to scratch. Yes, even, I'm afraid, Mickey Rourke's (though to a lesser extent). Having seen excellent performances from most of the cast in other movies (with the exception of Jessica Alba, who usually stinks), I have come to conclusion that the green screen was to blame. Now, I know that the idea behind it was that it is supposed to be cliche and pulpy, but that doesn't mean the acting had to be so. One of the things you learn in the theatre is the more seriously you play a ridiculous role, the better the effect. Miller's characters can speak for themselves, and had they been played WELL and with conviction, the movie would have been all the better. However, as I said, it seemed that the fault was that the actors were uncomfortable on a 100% green screen set, and didn't know how to react effectively in such an alien environment. Case in point is Michael Madsen, who sounded like he was just doing a cold read of the lines as if he was auditioning someone else and all the everyone was more concerned with what was going to come out of the other person's mouth, so what he said didn't matter. Really, really wooden. Same goes, though to a lesser extent, for most of the rest of the cast. It's hard to fault Elijah Wood as anyone could have done that role. All he had to do was look creepy, keep his mouth shut and do some kicks.
Otherwise, great movie, can't wait for the next two, but the performances were a let down.

Michael Madsen's charater's lines grate even in the book.
I'm actually surprised he could recite them with a straight face. ;)

Yeah they're corny lines but there are ways to make them work. Next time you read or see it, imagine him saying the same lines with an intense desperation in his voice, like it's all or nothing. It'll seem a lot better.

Angelina Jolie has been confirmed (by Rosario Dawson, no less) as the first choice to play Ava Lord in Sin City 2... they're just waiting until she's popped her kid out to film her part, which is why the film has been delayed.
Will be interesting to see pre-surgery Dwight.

It felt like that kid at school who always tries really hard to be cool but just ends up acting and sounding like a fucking doofus... THAT was Sin City.

I loved it, I now own a copy. I must admit Britteny Murphy was a laugh in it, but I think that was the point, she was not meant to be taken serious.Any movie with excessive and senseless violence is always good.

I really liked Marv and Bruce Willis' stories the best.

No, I go around making comments in random threads about movies I HAVEN'T seen..
They were two movies who tried to overstate themselves in an arty way and ended up turning me off them totally.

your an idiot arnt you? Sin City looked like that because thats the way the comics it was based on looked. As for kill bill, arty? wtf?

*sigh*
If you're going to call someone an idiot try not to look like one yourself. It's "you're" and "aren't" by the way.
I never saw the comics, but when you adapt something from one medium to another you have a certain amount of free artistic expression. You may have loved the movie because you remembered the comics and the movie is like the comics. I never saw the comics and maybe that’s why initial viewing of the movie failed to engage me. I got that they were trying to make a point with all the effects and overdone acting but whatever that point was, it was lost..
And yes.. arty.. the wildly excessive gore?.. please tell me you noticed..

Jesus.. it wasn't arty because it was gory.. it was arty BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE GORE WAS OVERSTATED

You don't need to be a spelling nazi to want to communicate without looking like a retard. This isn't a phone, take the extra quarter second to hit those keys or if you're message is that unimportant, don't hit them at all.

I understood what Iceman was saying, in regards to sin city and kill bill having an arty feel to it. not the same type, but kill bill had that Japanese cartoon influence and marshal arts, and that unusual filming technique. SO NER.

Sin City was a great film precisely because it took all the 'comic/superhero' genre films that have been coming out and then took them to their logical extreme..by making a moving comic strip. It didn't try to make a film FROM a comic, it made a comic OUT OF film.
Anyone else see the difference? I don't get the comparisons to Kill Bill, which was a comicy (spl?) style film, much like a lot of tarantino's work. Sin City was a comic done in film style...
Iceman is right and I support his point of view.
Rest of you, wash the sand out of your vaginas and realise that it's OK for people to not like the things you like.
Talk about being insecure.
