Well, as a few of you know, I gave up drinking awhile back and, since then, my interest in soft drinks has reawakened as a result. Sadly, my beersnobishness seems to have carried over to this as well. Basically, I now like to have a soft drink or two during the day but I simply cannot stand the normal run-of-the-mill crap.
Coke-Cola is still one of the greats but I am really picky about them. I only drink it out of the small glass bottles because otherwise it tastes like every other crappy cola drink. Moreover, living in South America got me used to the original forumula again - where it is made with sugar and not corn syrup as they do in the US.
Living in Peru gave me an addiction for Inca Kola - the soft drink that still kicks Coka-Cola's ass in that country. It's wonderfully weird to drink because it is phosphorescent yellow. It tastes a bit like cream soda but with a hint of lemon grass and camomile. In Peru Inca Kola is served at every Chinese Restaurant and, after working out, that meal and drink is simply divine.
The most recent thing stateside seems to be Henry Weinhard's soft drinks. I am not sure of the story but it seems it is a brewery out of Oregon that makes this stuff on the side. The root beer is good, the fruit cream sodas are horrible but the Henry Winhard's Vanilla Cream is simply divine. I am drinking this stuff up like I used to go through Shiner Bock beer. It's awesome.
Lastly, I am trying to find some authentic Jamaican ginger beer here in the Phoenix area. I used to get some great stuff when I lived in Texas but I can't remember the brands or anything.
