I just finished watching this movie after a download. It sucks. Plain and simple. If you're planning to see this film at the movies, then don't. Its suposed to be about a weird ass future where a virus has wiped out 99% of the population. The few remaining have been "cured" and live in one city while nature has reclaimed the rest of the world.
Cue in Aeon Flux (Charlize Theron), with probably the worst screen name ever imagined. Why not just dispense with the bullshit and call her "Hot Ass" or something equally stupid?
Now, here is an unstoppable killing machine who can dodge bullets and basically never die. She is unstoppable and the movie is predictably lame because of it.
I can't go into much of a rant because I would give away some of the movies plot twists (what few there are). But even these twists make no sense what so ever.
If you really want to see this movie, wait for it to go to rental, as its just plain horrible.

Err, you do realise this is an adaption of an anime? It's not supposed to make sense.

Ya huh. The anime made sense but that's b/c she died at the end of most of the episodes. I didn't think the movie would work based on this fact. You can't exactly have the main character die every few scenes now can you? ;)
If you watch the anime/episodes it'll make more sense. Trust me. ;) The costumes, names e.t.c are all taken from that. It's all explained way better in the animated series.

The good news is that the original anime series has been released on DVD and can be had from Amazon, or probably any good torrent site near you by now.
Its also on Foxtel if you have access to MTV - I watch it all the time.
This is the best summation of the movie I have ever found.
To Sum it all up:
A stunningly sexy ass-kicking heroine with unrealistically perfect body and mind flies on wires, kung fu fights and one-liner quips her way against an army of inept male baddies without breaking a sweat or showing any pain or duress at all, but pausing every thirty-five minutes to parade around in her underwear or take a completely unnecessary shower, all to defend the world against a meaningless stereotypical cliche that threatens to destroy us all for no real reason.
A Hollywood A-list model-turned-actress lets the post-Oscar ego-boost give her career a false sense of invulnerability and takes a huge paycheck to show her figure in skin-tight vinyl and wiggle her ass for an audience of horny 13 year old boys, while self-righteously defending the movie to the press as "female empowerment" and "providing a good role model for girls," pausing every ten minutes to compare herself to Sigourney Weaver in Alien.

I didn't even know there was an anime about it.
I just thought it was another post-apocalyptic-new-world-society-thats-about-to be-destroyed rubbish movie. Kind of like Equilibrium, but with a chick this time.
Honesty, Im getting sick of slick characters that cannot be harmed. At least Neo died in the end of Matrix!!!
I got all the imagery in the movie, it was very deep and shit, but a good movie it did not make. I think I would have rathered just had two hours of Charlize Theron getting nailed in every position known to humanity.
Could have called it Thrustin' Through Theron, or Charlize Cock Chuging Capers! Would have gotten a hell of a better review in my eyes. (also in my hands too)
Its the Catwoman syndrome - get an oscar winning actress, shove her in a skimpy outfit and then think that alone will sell tickets.

I wouldn't really call the old Liquid Television shorts anime... but I'm being picky. Either way, there's no chance in hell the movie will live up to them.
And I think Avatar has demonstrated how 90% of the population will react to it: "Fucking boring contrived shit". 5% will know the original cartoon and be disappointed, and the other 5% will be lunking meatheads who like that kind of garbage.
Its true it isn't anime - it's an old cartoon.

Nah.
Halle Berry in tight leather outfit = meh.
Charlize Theron in tight leather outfit = hubba hubba.
I'm still going to watch it. I may wait for...um say DVD or something, but I'll watch it. Of course I won't be able to convince my girlfriend to watch it, so it may be some time before I get the chance. I think I can wait.
PS: I watched Resident Evil: Apocalypse yesterday and it fucking rocked. Highly reccomended for any zombie, action or Milla Jovovich fans. Oh and it would probably help if you'd seen the first Resident Evil film, but I don't think it's essential (she repeats the result of the first film enough for you to understand).

Fuck the movie. The animated series is the best American anime ever created. It'll be released in Aus in about February and you can get it from HMV then for about $38

I have the vaguely nagging feeling that watching the old mtv cartoons would be a bit like watching re-runs of the Young Ones. Better left to fond memory, I think..
