God I hope that was American dollars not AUS$, I would not work in the IT help industry for under $25/hour.

helpdesk work is a completely thankless job, you never get rewarded for your services and you always cop shit when the slightest things go wrong.

Not to mention a customer base that treats you like worthless gutter rags and management as daft as a sandpit that has no concept of what you do but will see fit to abuse your services and then lay the blame on you when something goes wrong.

sounds like a breaze! Helpdesks in the IT sector are a joke, pressure, workload and outsourced work make it hard for some of us helpdesk workers to compete when others get paid so much less. Thankfully I work for a government helpdesk so the pay is quite good, benifits are good but the structure (managment and some other clerks) is a joke. Constantly hiring temps on short term contracts so mistakes have to be corrected over and over again.

Helpdesks are very self rewarding jobs, just dont expect the customers to appreciate you.

Hopefully this isn't sales/marketing outbound, tried it for 1 month and ain't worth being abused-just destroys you mentally. Or even worse 000 call centre, I haven't worked there personally but my ex-Telstra work colleague suffered quite a lot of trauma dealing with emergency situations....*shudders*

Inbound customer service is not that bad, I'd prefer doing that than face to face retail sales assistant or bank tellers, worse when you can actually see them, can turn real ugly when they haven't paid any attention when buying sale stock which isn't refundable ergh.

But I'd prefer a human voice anyday to those annoying automated reply ones that go "What do you require help with ? I heard blah blah blah, is that right ? " and most of the time you have to keep repeating yourself talking to an answering machine. :grr:
