It's alright, but...
I've seen the first two episodes (taped tonight, will watch tomorrow) and my first impressions were that it's a nice idea, but as serious as they try to make it, you really have to suspend your disbelief to watch it. The entire premise is a bit "umm... yeah right". I'm talking about the basic idea of getting thrown into jail to try and bust out, not just doing so by getting the blueprints to the joint tattooed all over your entire upper body hidden within random artwork. But if you can believe that, you're laughing.
The other thing is that it borrows SO much from other prison movies and shows, NAMELY Oz and Shawshank Redemption. He was in jail all of three seconds before he was introduced to the 'black guy who can get you whatever you want' (see: Red from Shawshank Redemption). His original cellmate was a hispanic guy whose girlfriend may be unfaithful whilst he's sent to solitary (see: Miguel Alvarez from Oz). Then there's the warden who needs help with something that only he can do, in return for leniency etc(see: Doing the Warden's accounting in Shawshank Redemption). Oh, did we mention there's the romantic interludes with the prison doctor (see: Ryan O'Reilly and Dr. Nathan from Oz).
And that's only the first episode...
I suppose comparisons are inevitible, but really, I've seen this all before, and it was done a lot better. I'll still give it a few more episodes to prove itself though. Would be nice to see something original come out of it.
You are forgetting how it compares to The Longest Yard, both the Adam Sandler version and the original.
