View Full Version : CSI love it or hate it?

I'm well aware there are a bunch of people that hate CSI and I understand their reasons.

My gf is very much into it, and as a result I've been watching it too. As a result, I'm now enjoying it. (I know, I know, don't hate me)

I get that it's a complete joke with the way things happen, but still find it relatively interesting after you decide to ignore all that shit.

What's the general feeling?

I like it partly.
Because it has you thinking, Like a game of chess. figuring out the ending before the writers want you to know. Looking at the little facts that they show you, and making your own judgements.

I hate it partly.
Because of the drama and unrealistic expectations they give people.
The ways they do some things are just plain wrong, but people believe thats how its done. ie, no REAL police work just this handful of lab-rats that go out solving crimes. All the Cops do is shoot (and miss), and ruin crime scenes.

Overall Score: Meh...

I'm not a fan, maybe because I haven't given it a chance, We call them the 'semen shoes' because everytime they find a crimescene they are all like 'we have checked for traces of semen' or 'there is semen found at the site' funny stuff.

I like it sometimes and hate it other times. I find all I need is a break form it then I can get back into it. I do wonder it all that equipment and scientific stuff they use is for real.

Once every few weeks is good - couldn't watch it in all of it's incarnations every week though for the reasons above.

My gf was telling me the original CSI had the best equiped CSI lab in the state. She's really into it. Personally I find it entertaining enough.

I used to be a fan of CSI, and CSI:Miami. But just got to a point where it got boring. Nothing really good happening and there's a lot better on TV to watch these days. If you're looking for a show similar to CSI but better, try NCIS.

Back in '74 I started a thread about CSI's lameness:

I'm sorta gettin annoyed with the CSI and it's stupidly linear plot lines. Here's a summary of the standard CSI storyline
1. Guy/Girl gets murdered good and proper
2. Regular detectives secure the crime scene with police tape, but haven't got any clues about pretty much everything
3. CSI get called in
4. Take blood/hair samples/tyre tracks/footprints etc
5. Meanwhile, regular detectives still ain't got no clues - looking up "murder" on google or something
6. CSI run tests and re-enactments piecing together what has happened with microscopes and stuff
7. CSI identify and solve the crime with virtually no analysis of normal evidence, such as motive, alibi etc

I just find it stupid that every episode is the bloody same. Maybe people don't agree with me, but Law and Order own's CSI's arse. CSI is waaay too Scooby Doo. The only thing that is missing is "and I would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for you pesky forensic detectives". Bah!

And nothing has changed (http://forum.zgeek.com/showthread.php?t=11261&page=2)

Amen to that. Anything to do with computers shits me every fucking time. Other than that it's watchable. Like I said my gf likes it, I find it entertaining most of the time, so it's all good.

I reckon its great, but the technolgy side is unrealistic, plus it would cost heaps to actually do that.
The spin offs piss me off though.
The stories are great though, it rocks my jocks!

i personally like CSI more than Law and Order. There are just as many spinoffs in Law and Order as there are CSI btw. In particular, in L&O Criminal Intent, that lead detective, (played by Vincent D'nofrio) seems to just magically come up with a resolution to any murder case or crime committed...all by his self! wtf? Atleast CSI walks through the stages of a crime and does it systematically, rather than, for instance, walking up to a piece of gauze tape the size of a grain of rice and stating it has blood and smells like mint (that was from an episode of L&O criminial intent) Anyway...i digress...i just love CSI.

I was once told that according to CSI I've been dead for 4 hours. My normal body temp is 95.6 fahrenheit (35.33 C ).

Right on. Also all the pretty interfaces and animations they have on the computers really piss me off. It just doesn't happen. Not to mention the episode where the technician of the webcam porn site is being interviewed and has an LCD screen set up doing nothing but displaying the number of users online.

That aside, I love CSI, it's Channel Nine that piss me off running all three series at once and then bombarding us with repeats when the seasons are over. What's wrong with running one series at a time and having sweet CSI goodness all year round? And while I can handle the sometimes absurd plot movement, CSI: NY is still too fake to enjoy.

the Images suck. but what I hate? THE AUDIO. FFS, You can't take a recorded phone call from a 5 yearold handheld tape recorder, and isolate the tracks to find out what type of engine city bus that was driving past has.

Christ... As I said:
Because of the drama and unrealistic expectations they give people.

Cops.. lawyers.. cops who are lawyers. The people who write this wank need to find a new fetish or go eat a dick.

Pretty much all procedural 'drama' is the same thing week in and week out.

The only show that I can think of in this vein that doesn't make me want to stab orphans is 'House'.

...even then I think I'd enjoy it more if they cut out all of the pesky medical problem solving nonsense and had him lounge around and insult people for an hour.

Crap crap crappity crap.

Are there any other shows besides medical, investigation, medical investigation, law and law enforcement?

EDIT: nothing fresh has been out except the Sopranos.

ahem. what about the superb black comedy of Desperate Housewives? A cross between Twin Peaks and American Beauty, it is a parody of the deepest darkest secrets of suburban america.

Marcia Cross rules. (she was also in a CSI episode once, about two women with an agreement to kill each other's husbands)

as for CSI, I started watching it at the start of season 2. then I saw repeats of season 1 and grissoms obsession with 'the science'. yeah we get it - forensics. no need to shove it down our throats.

occasional episodes are ok, but overal I just got more & more irritated with it. namely stupid things like the lab monkeys being allowed to leave the lab and crash police crime scenes; lab monkeys being present for suspect interrogations; even occasions when they have done the arrests. Not to mention blabbing evidence to suspects in an effort to make them confess, and sloppy investigative work all round.

I think the writers realised their mistake early on - none of the origianl CSI team are cops, and they have corrected that with Miami and New York. But they are just boring, and I really hate David Caruso (more than I like Emily Proctor, who used to be the rocking Ainsley Hayes on West Wing).

I read a lot of thrillers, detective stories, and police procedurals. The fact that basic police work gets ignored or stomped all over in the CSI shows has annoyed me to a point where I just can't watch them any more.

are real crime labs dimly lit with blue neon lights and constructed entirely of stainless steel and glass panels like they are in every TV show?
