Being a uni bum has its advantages. Apart from doing absolutely nothing productive during the mid-year break, you get sent to nVidia tech days because everyone else is going to work. :p While the others earn dollars, the uni bum earns free lunch, a freebie lappy cover, a Marriot Hotel pen and points with an iffy marketing girl. :p (more on this later)

On arrival, the first thing I get slapped with is an NDA sheet. This immediately gets me thinking that the information they're releasing here must be HOT. Excitement! I kick myself for waking up late and missing the first half hour.

As I'm ushered into the darkened room, I see an nVidia demo running on screen. Unfortunately the NDA precludes me from saying anything further until the 12th of August. But try not to be disappointed when the day finally comes. :p

"(not really) HOT STUFF" aside, I am allowed to say things about the new ForceWare drivers, SLI and the AA that it allows. Call me a slouch, but all that tech talk just turned into 'blah blah'. So that's what I literally wrote down.. BLAH and BLAH!

Without the benefit of good notes, I must direct the hard-core reader to FiringSquad or Anandtech, should they require details. That's if the hard-core reader doesn't already know all the details. This tech day was very much a repeat of earlier overseas events.

Though most of the covered material was already known to me, I did learn something new. The new ForceWare drivers will allow PCIe GeForce cards without the SLI connector to run on SLI. That's for the GeForce 6600 standard/LE down to the 6200's.

Quite exciting for all the cheapos out there :p , me included. This means you can boast about your 2 cent system being SLI enabled. And to those who already have these cards, your systems are now or will be officially "SLI Ready". :p

Please note however, SLI across the PCIe bus will allow you to jack up settings but not resolutions. Understandably the new solution is restricted by the bus's bandwidth. nVidia figures people who have these cards won't be interested in high res's anyway.

With that said, I conclude the meat and proceed to the fluff. Sitting there with all those real, professional journalists was quite intimidating. I was a nub in a room full of super, mega smart people who were at this game since the beginning of time.

So what do I do? I DRAW CUTESY PICTURES ON THE NDA SHEET. :D Didn't fare too well with the people handing out business cards but the marketing girl at the front door said they were "SOO CUTE!!" >_<.

She obviously didn't see the stabbing picture.
