i was wondering if any of you watched a show that was shown on foxtels showtime channel last year , it is set in the 1870s and starts off with wild bill hickok and calamitie jane as well as a lot of other colourful characters , it will never be shown on normal tv as it has extrememly colourful language , and can be a bit blood and guts at times as well as quite funny , ifyou want to see the whole series go to your local video shop and you can get the series one box set in the weekly section , i highly recommend it , oh incase you missed thename of the show its called "deadwood"
I concur with this review. Deadwood is ace.

The last couple of days I have been doing a Deadwood and Veronica Mars marathon. Deadwood is great but it’s not a one sitting thing, 3 a day is my limit.
Banga you can download session 2 Here (http://www.mininova.org/tor/230873), though it's worth buying
Oh I really want to see Jefah in a cowboy hat, he looks so much like Dan Doughty!

Deadwood is simply sensational.
Extraordinary characters and situations. Highly recommended for anyone for anyone who can handle the regular use of a variety of "c" words in their TV.

Season 3 is going to be the last by the looks of it, though there will be two 2 hour specials to round things off.
Just about to watch episode 6, fuck I hope they take Hearst down in the style he deserves before the end of it all, though I feel he will leave town without recieving his cumupance.
/me wants season 3 waahhh
i love it. a more fucked up cunning bunch of lowlifes you'll never meet anywhere. even the goodies are fucked up. i think there's a lesson in that for all of us.

Calamity Jane - 'Mrs Bullock wishes me to author with her, to give the children an account of my scouting for Custer'
Joanie - 'I think I'd like to hear that story myself'
Calamity Jane - 'Custer was a cunt. The end'
Jane and Al get all the good lines :D

We need to run some sort of book on
a) whether or not Hearst is actualy killed or survives
and if he dies
b) Who will kill him
I thought Al would have Dan kill him but now I'm not to sure.
More likely Bullock and Hearst will go at it and either Bullock will kill him or Charlie will kill him if Hearst starts getting the better of Bullock

First time caller, long time listener. We have 1 and 2, will start torrenting 3.
Unfortunately, news is the series is finishing up just like all actually good US shows (Arrested development). :(
Edit: course Hippy said it before...still craptacular though and I concur, Jefah is Dan.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. Al

I started watching the 2nd season recently (damn I love bittorrent). I'd watched the 1st a while back and I reckon they've changed the tone of the show. Its more shakespearian in a way (if that makes sense) with the delivery of the lines being more like a play than a tv show. It really put me off.

my favorite film reviewer, matt zoller seitz, has been faithfully chronicling every episode of this show on his website the house next door (http://mattzollerseitz.blogspot.com/). he considers it one of the best shows ever to be shown on television. be warned, he reviews current episodes so there are lots of spoilers in the more recent entries.

The way they talk can be a bit hard to follow sometimes but I think its one of the unique things about the show that makes it stand out.
Theres a lot of dialogue and and to have them plot and scheme and just generally converse in modern day english just wouldn't add to the old time atmosphere as much.
Although Romes dialogue seemed to be up to date, so to speak, and it didnt detract from my enjoyment of it.
Deadwood episode 8 is up at eztvefnet.org for those of you who are up to date.

one of the reasons i find the show intriguing is the use of the language. (i have yet to see an episode being here in peru) reading memoirs of men who fought in civil war it really struck me how lettered many people were during that era and examining how that would carry over into how they acted in their normal lives is an intriguing thought.
Glompbot
02-08-2006, 08:23 AM
Yeah, the language gives me the feeling that sometimes i 'miss' things, so I'm going to rewatch the entire series.

Guarantee we all miss things when they talk. Its like poetry in a sense. Which is funny because they have all the swearing going on. Very well done story though watching an episode tommorow night. w00t

well ive seen up to episode 6 of season three and cant wait for the next ones to come to me , the street brawl in ep 5 between dan and the captain was good wasnt it
and the comments that some of the actors make when referring to other people can be quite humourous at times

I felt that the fact they didn't show the last part of the fight made it more gruesome than if they had.

I found an interview of the creator who said 8 episoides, the last 2 of that 8 being 2 hours...
So that equals 12 episoides in time, but cuts the cost down.
each episoide makes 4.2mil to make, which was their major reason for cancelling the series.

I found the end of season 3 to be a major letdown, but I guess they have to follow true to the history of the events, even if that means somebody who should have been shot gets to just ride away... After such a big buildup to something big happening, it just fizzled out.

One thing I never understood from Season 1 :
The whole widow gold claim and Swearengen buisness.
Swearengen has Dority kill 'The New York dude' and make it look like an accident, at the time, not knowing about the real value of the claim: Just trying to cover his arse with the Pinkertons who the dude threatened to get involved if Al doesn't turn the 20K back over because the claim is 'pinched'.
When Dority is slamming the dudes head into that rock, he looks up, shambles over to a rocky outcrop and notices MASSIVE FUCKING hunks of gold. He reports this back to Al: 'Yo teh gold claim is BONANZA'.
So Al goes ahead trying to muddle the Widows thoughts with Trixie and opium in order to buy the bonanza claim back for a mere 20k. The widow gets wise and wants the claim reconnoitered properly. Bullock enlists Dority and Ellsworth and goes reconnoitering. Dority and Ellsworth are aware of the MASSIVE find...of which YOU ASSUME they will hide from Bullock on the mission, so he goes back to the widow, says its worthless, sell it to Al and get teh fuck out.
But no: Bullock comes back saying ELLSWORTH found out its a Bonanza. Dont sell it. Were rich. Fuck Al.
Was not Ellsworth and Dority specifically told by 'Swegen' NOT to show Bullock the massive find?! But they did and the Widow holds it and gets rich. This just gets glossed over...Swegen never really seems to get up Dority or Ellsworth for fucking with his plan and losing his 20K bonanza claim. It's just not mentioned again in Season 1 ...(Im yet to watch 2 or 3).
Im like what the fuck...it was the major story running through the whole first season but it really seemed to me like the writers fucked it up majorly and just lost the plot.
Swegen should have been pissed that he lost that claim. It was a bonanza. Dority and Ellsworth fucked it up for him. They should be gutted. But nothing...a major story told for hours through the first series just gets gutted and dumped in with Wu's pigs and I'm starting to think why am I watching this incoherent shite?!
Or did I miss something?
Glompbot
20-01-2007, 05:48 PM
you missed something
i'll rewatch it later and fill you in, i need to get back into the storyline before i can.
it was my impression he told them to keep bullok away from the rich area, and/or ellsworth, though seeing the killing, did not see tat it was gold, was just simply not aware
