For all you Evangelion lovers, a live action movie designed by WETA, the team behind the graphics for Lord of the Rings and King Kong, is in the planning stages. Think I'm talking shit? Well why not head over to the official WETA website as well as its IMDb page.

The main downside about having normal human beings play anime characters, is that it really shows up the unnatural aspects of the anime characters anatomical proportions. No, I'm not talking breasts etc. They all have wrong length legs and mis-proportioned legs. It happens a lot in video games too. It tends to disrupt the suspension of disbelief that we all use to enjoy any type of fiction.

Considering the depth of Eva, the movie will either miss too many central points, or be as confusing as hell for non-fans.

The cynical me cant see it working, but the optimistic me sure hopes it can.

i think the main downside is who is making it this time round.... because gainmax / production iD studios arent helping them. I think hardly anyone is helping them..
[The original series was controversial in japan and upset a lot of people so they havent done any of the spinoffs or OAVs normally associated with successful animes.]

even though WETA remains true to the stories they remake [more due to the director than anything] can you honestly see them going anywhere near the original ending?

It will be a major feat if they even touch on the character development the original series had.

This movie will be all about making concessions / playing to the lowest common denominator I think.

:\ sorry if i sound a bit glass half empty.. but I dont think much good will come of this movie.

If the strip away the HEAVY philosophical bullshit and just leave giant robots, it might be good.
