A lot of much has been trown about aroundthe term 'emo'. The problem is, there is a lot of very valid music that is being overlooked because of its asociation with the genre.

Panic! At the disco Is four peice from the USA made up of four kids barely out of highschool. How someone so young has such an understanding of his voice is beyond me. This guy has range and incredible dynamics. Not to mention lyrics that defy all logic in fitting into the song, for example look at these lines from I write sins not tragedies (the pick of the litter for me):

Oh, well imagine; as I'm pacing the pews in a church corridor,
and I can't help but to hear, no I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words.
"What a beautiful wedding!", "What a beautiful wedding!" says a bridesmaid to a waiter.
"And yes, but what a shame, what a shame, the poor groom's bride is a whore."

I'd chime in with a "Haven't you people ever heard of closing the god damn door?!"
No, it's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.

No, it's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of... What the FUCK? It reads like a story, but somehow syncopates over the song...interesting.

They are not tied down to the old guitar/drums/bass thing. They use lots of the new tech, synths, drum machines and vocal effects make a judicious appearance here as well.

Something that cought my ear (and $25 for that matter) was the use of older style 1920's good time music on There's A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought Of It Yet. It brings a depth of understanding of more than the same old Green Day refrences that most younger emo/punk/whatever you call it bands have.

If you are looking to have a peek at what this new generation of melodic punk bands are producing that is perhaps not as radio friendly as some groups out there, then definately check out Panic! At The Disco.

My only gripe is that the production is so crystal clear on this. I know, this is a silly thing to say but definately perhaps a little too perfect for such music.

Check out the web site: http://www.panicatthedisco.com/ for more info, they have links to their MySpace and such from there. You can also sample some of thier tunes.

These guys grew up in my neighborhood in Las Vegas. They went to the same High school as my little sister.
