I wonder what this means...

Yeah, it makes a shitload more sense for a spider but I can see the die hard purists not liking this move.

Okay, so it's meant to be the alien symbiote costume.

I know not why Raimi needs to fuck with it, the comic book version is such a good design, and I actually prefer it to the original red and blue Spidey duds.

:nonono:

OK, so I know Spidey wears the symbiote costume in Spirderman 3. Venom's in it - of course he does. But what the fuck is that thing?

It looks more like the Spider Armour costume (or Hockey-goalie-man as I like to call it):

The only good thing i can take away from this shite is the fact that Sony are cheapskates (hang on - are there any movie studios who aren't?) and they are well known for releasing doctored footage, pics etc which have little if any resemblance to the final product. This does (as they so rightly put it) look like a low-brightness, high-contrast black and white photo of the red and blue suit from the first two films.

In fact, knowing the cannibalistic nature of costume designers, if this isn't just some photochop job and it is the final version of the symbiote suit (and I sincerely hope it's not) then I'd go as far as to say it IS one of the red and blue suits which has been dyed.

admittedly, it's an assumption, but it's one shared by a lot of people, considering that Kirsten Dunts blabbed ages ago that Venom would be one of the villains in Spidey 3.

So, to get Venom, at least if they stay faithful to Venom's origin (the Ultimate version comparatively sucked), Spidey needs to wear the symbiote costume at some point.

I can't see any other explanation for that image.

I can see Jonah Jamersons son being Venom. The symbiote comes from space, and the dude is an astronaught. He also has a reason to hate spiderman/Peter Parker since Mary Jane left him at the alter for him. So I'm fairly certain that he will be venom, but to remain true to the comic spidey will have to host the symbiote for a period.

I would be severely disappointed if Eddie Brock was not Venom. They've already had a different actor play Jameson Jnr. in the last movie.

However... they have been known to change things, they gave spidey organic web-shooters for instance... the the most telling example is Green Goblin's costume. It looked NOTHING like it did in the comics. Instead of a crazy freak mask that looked like it was part of osbourne's face they just made it a boring green suit of armour... I would really hate to see Venom or the Symbiote reduced to just a black version of Spiderman, but who can say with these guys...

Edit: Just remembered they're making Harry Osborne into Hobgoblin and not Green Goblin II, so I guess they'll do whatever the hell they want.

Now this I didn't have much of a problem with - they've downplayed Peter's interest in Science for about 30 years now, and it makes more sense for a character with spider-like abilities.

The comic books now have of course followed suit, giving him the same ability but in a more contrived way.

Nope. Everybody is assuming that Topher Grace is Eddie Brock though.

Thomas Haden Church is playing Sandman, which counts that particular villain out.

I'd think the casting of Topher Grace to play Spidey's opposite number to be pure genuis, despite his physical disimilarity with Eddie Brock.

Yeah, if it were true, it would be kinda neat to have Topher Grace for Venom. It'd sorta look like Bizzaro Spidey, cause he'd make a good Peter Parker himself.

Actually he was... In the first movie, they mention that "Eddie couldn't even get a photo of Spiderman", or something to that effect while discussing whether or not to buy Parker's photos. OBVIOUSLY an allusion to Eddie Brock.
You never saw him, but he has been mentioned. This gives them the opportunity to now bring up competitive feud between Brock and Parker (though it would have been better if they alluded to it in the 2nd film also), and as we haven't actually seen Eddie yet, Topher Grace can play him as there are no allusions as to what he looks like in the 'movie universe'.
Last I heard he was bulking up and had his hair dyed blonde anyway.

"Over at Cineactual, someone's played with the newly released image of Spider-Man, colouring in some parts of the eye-piece to reveal something sort of like the mask of Green Goblin. Of course if this reflection is accurate, it would mean the villain was located in Spider-Man's crotch."
