http://forum.zgeek.com/gallery/files/2/0/1/jonstewart_thumb.jpgwell i sure as shit wasnt about to watch it but the one liners that are coming out look pretty damn awesome...

"I have to say it is a little shocking to see all these big names here, these huge stars. The Oscars is really I guess the one night of the year when you can see all your favorite stars without having to donate any money to the Democratic Party. And it's exciting for the stars as well because it's the first time many of you have ever voted for a winner."

"'Capote' showed America that not all gay people are virile cowboys -- some are actually effete New York intellectuals."

"I do have some sad news to report. Bjork couldn't be here tonight. She was trying on her Oscar dress and Dick Cheney shot her."

"A lot of people say this town is too liberal, out of touch with mainstream America ... a modern day, beachfront Sodom and Gomorrah, a moral black hole where innocence is obliterated in an endless orgy of sexual gratification and greed ... I just thought you should know a lot of people are saying that."

"Tonight is the night we celebrate excellence in films, with me, the fourth male lead in 'Death to Smoochy,"' he said.

On the economic consequences of movie piracy: "There are women here who could barely afford enough gown to cover their breasts."

On Stephen Spielberg: "From the man who also gave us 'Schindler's List,' " he said. " 'Schindler's List' and 'Munich.' I think I speak for all Jews when I say, 'I can't wait to see what happens to us next!' Trilogy!"

On Capote: " 'Capote,' of course, addressed similar themes to 'Good Night, and Good Luck.' Both films are about determined journalists defying obstacles in a relentless pursuit of truth. Needless to say, both are period pieces."

On Cinderella Man: "I imagine the difficulty of making Russell Crowe look like he got into a fight," he said, adding, "I'm going to be pummeled later this evening, aren't I?"

On Three 6 Mafia recieving their Oscare for the music in "Hustle and Flow.": "For those f you keeping score at home, Martin Scorsese, zero; Three 6 Mafia, one."

At one point Stewart asked the cameras to point to a huge statue of the Oscar image above the stage and said, "Do you think if we all got together and pulled this down, democracy would flourish in Hollywood?"

Overall though, the pundits were rather thumbs down:

The Chicago Tribune (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-0603060019mar06,1,3231679.story?coll=chi-news-hed)

Interesting polarization, particularly since spielberg liked him so much. Tom Schales seemed threatened, you don't make barbs like "It goes to prove that there's still a big, big difference between basic cable and big-time network television after all." unless you're trying to prove something to someone else methinks.

Im a Jon Stewart Fan, and i thought he did a pretty good job. But his humour and style i can see is not everyones taste. He isnt someone that tells BIG jokes. He's more a relaxed sort of comedian. Reading some of the critisism, some of it seemed to be written by people who just dont like him. Saying he was insulting people, when he poked fun at them, and not even in a mean poking fun way.. wtf?

I too really enjoyed Jon Stewart's performance last night. One-liner induced laughter all over the lounge :D

Pliskin: Yes I saw that Tom Hanks moment. It was just after Jon had said what a great sport Tom Hanks was for allowing them to smash a violin over his head. I couldn't catch what was said, and didn't record it to examine, but the word fuck definitely featured. There is a definite possibility that something was cut out from that bit.

I noticed last night on the Nine News that Jennifer Garner had her "I do all my own stunts" line cut from the previous coverage but shown on the news.

After all my excitement and wanting to watch him bring down the big-money tools at the biggest big-money event of them all I arrived home late, missed most of it and played BF2 badly instead.
