View Full Version : Favourite pizzeria

Whats your most loved pizzeria .... my favourite would have to be one of the many "Pizza Rustica" locations found around Rome, Angelos Pizza on Broadway in New York (next door to Lettermans theater) and Mercadante in Lygon Street in Melbourne.

I await your input with much hunger.

My Kitchen, I prefer to make my own, that way I can put an entire onion on it and have it just the way I like it with lots of ham and pineapple mmmm.

There is this Pizza Place in North Ryde, Kismet Kitchen or some thing (next to KFC and Macca's) and htey make the best pizza's. They are never greasy and they kick arse.

Plus they make this Kebab Pizza (Kebab meat on the Pizza) which is do awesome.

I have recently discovered Perrys Woodfire Pizzas on Glebe Point Rd and it is fantastic. In fact I had some tonight. The Tex Mex is the king. And it's only a block from my front door.

Torinos on Enmore Rd is pretty good too, and Arthurs in Bondi Junction is also worth a mention.

Whereabouts is Arthurs in Bondi Junction? I know of an Arthurs in Randwick, its pretty average.

One of my friends tells me that Queens Park Pizzeria is awesome. I quite enjoy Dolcissimo in Haberfield and Big Tonys (I think its called that) in La Perouse as well.

Classic Italian Pizza
1054 E Baseline Rd
Tempe, AZ 85283-1314
(480) 345-8681

although it is located in the middle of the phoenix suburban sprawl and was founded by a guy from the baltics who learned to cook pizza from a german, this place makes the best pizzas i have had since i was in italy.

located in the back corner of one of the region's ubiquitous shopping malls, this place is a true discovery for the pizza afficianado. the owner built an authentic wood fired italian pizza oven by hand in which everything on the menu is prepared. the bottom line is you just cannot match that type of oven for properly cooking a well made pizza.

they also understand the real secret to making italian pizza. go for the best ingredients and spend as much effort as you can on the dough. none of the pizza chain spongelike crap here, it is a sweet crisp dough that you can eat by itself (and do since he makes the fantastically addictive breadsticks from them)

what sets these pizzas apart are the understanding that the vegetables and sauces should be the centerpiece of the pizza but should not overwhelm the dish. a shitload of greasy gloppy tomato sauce only works the day after a huge bender and you are rummaging through the fridge for something to hold the hangover at bay. at classic, they use as fresh vegatbles as they can get and you taste them in every bite - the way you are supposed to.

this place is a bit more pricy than regular pizza parlors but, if you ever end up in the greater-phoenix area, it is worth checking out.

There was a place called tops4pizza here, they made huge pizzas, really good ones. But they closed. Now I'd have to say pizza haven is my fav.

Yup, that's my favourite as well. I used to live just down the road and had one of their pizzas once a week.

Arthurs in Bondi Junction is also worth a mention.

The one on oxford st? I'd call that paddington. 2 fat chefs in rushcutters bay is great, as is Maralinas on oxford st.

Big Johns down in little italy in mahattan is pretty good, even the "new" big johns spread around manhattan are pretty good.

I still haven't found a great pizza shop in London. I've found good pizza, just nothing to write home about yet

Gelbison in Leichhardt, Sydney - sadly I've not lived there to take advantage of this since 2000, but made a cursory visit in 2004 and was happy to report the quality had not declined.

This is lame, but a Wednesday night in in 1998 while I was living in Leichhardt meant a Napolitana Pizza (just an oregano tomato base) with Olives and Anchovies on it - and an episode of fuckin Dawson's Creek with my then girlfriend (and now wife).

These days when I get to have pizza it's normally chain stuff like Eagle Boys.

Curly Joe's on Sydney Road in Brunswick. Best BBQ Chicken pizza in the world. We usually go there on special occasions, but when I was living in Brunswick, friday night was pizza night and everyone came to our place for Curly's.
They're a little bit on the pricey side.. but god damn it's so worth it.

I can't believe you didn't say Elvis Pizza?!

How much better can pizza get when you add an Elvis impersonator?

My staple for quite some time was La Vespa on Crown St although I was addicted to their Calzones more than the pizza

Ahhh, pizza.....

Wollongong - Arlecchino's on Corrimal St for dining, El Danny's in Lake Heights for home delivery.

Sydney - La Fornaia in Condell Park, Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield.

New York - Napoli Pizza, 7th Ave @ 21st St (ish). Just a plain ol' neighbourhood pizza place but the quality of the offering was soooooooo-perrrrb! And a decent espresso which is surprisingly hard to find....

La Fornaia in Condell Park is great. I often make the trip west strictly to have pizza there, though their cash-only policy irks me.

I hate paying cash at restraurants because the dodgey pricks dont pay tax, they all think they have a God-given right not to have to like the rest of us.

china - good fucking luck.

ok ok i went to a place in shanghai called 'pasti' and it wasn't bad. but it's not like you can just walk down there and get a 10 minute pizza like we're all used to. this is a classy sit-down restaurant.

Merrylands Sesame Pizza gets my vote hands down. It's been verified by at least a dozen of my mates from outside the area as the best pizza ever. The put sesame seeds around the crust, and plenty of toppings with the right balance of base-topping-cheese. My personal preference is the House Special, add ham and chilli.

Roman pizza is the greatest thing ever. Im hoping to indulge in it again one day soon.

There is also a place near La Scala theater in Milan, really expensive place but the pizza there is to die for.

I proposed to my fiancee at Isabella's in Leumeah - a small proper-restaurant-but-not-a-place-you'd-get-take-away-pizza from place.

I have never tried the Pizza's at Candelori's in Smithfield, but if you want the best Italian food ever, go there. And they stack it up on your place just like my Nonna does!

One of the things I like most about pizza is the easy access to a large amount of calories. A large pizza is a quick meal with about 2500 calories. That's hard to beat. It's about 80% carbs/protein as well.

Ah well... Italian related bread shop

Haberfield don't know the name but by god they make the best fucking bread and Italian delicacies in the world,

All i know, when we have family gatherings i can be sure that there will be bread and treats waiting for me...

I know they are full of sugar and carbs but it is really worth all those hours i spend in the gym trying to burn off fat

A couple of places:

My Nonna can kick all pizza places arses, was trying to convince her to open a restaurant but yeh...

A place in Blacktown, shut down now, but called Toni's pizza's family friend but doesn't take away from the quality of the pizza

Another relative, called Aldo in Bonyrigg (west of sydney), he is really Italian old school, makes everything fresh right in front of you, i wouldn't say that he has the best food in the world, but he uses the feshest and best ingredients and it really makes a difference (not as good as my Nonna's)

Leichhardt Norton street doesn't really feel special apart from "bar italia", any more....
