http://forum.zgeek.com/gallery/files/2/0/1/TURKEYDROP_thumb.jpgNow when I mention to folks I like to deep fry turkeys they look at me like I am plumb crazy. Which may be the case, but I know what I am talking about here and that's a fact.

If you have never had this wonderful dish, you are really missing out. People seem to expect some greasy disgusting KFC style nonsense when what you really end up with is a bird that has been sealed by the heat so all the meat cooks in its own juices. The flavor of the bird, and it is formidable, hits you with a whallop evey bite.

So, at long last, I have jotted down my instructions on how to make this great offering and included it on my cooking blog (http://www.kleph.com/cook/). If you are really tempted to try it. I urge you to read Canalien's thread on deep frying (http://www.zgeek.com/forum/showthread.php?t=47194) first and experiement with the suggestions there.

Sounds fantastic. Another friend of mine who is a bit of a foodie has a thing for Chinese fried duck. I'm guessing it's the same principle because it's surprisingly grease-light and nice and crispy.

If I were a pyromaniac, I'd honestly consider trying to fry a turkey myself ;)

Yep I have heard of this, some dude in America set fire to his house, because the oil spilled out of the pot.

Dude, I LOVE that thread read it when you wrote it, just that deep frying is danger time when I'm cooking it! I'm very clumsy! I agree it can be healthy.

i have a little arsenal. i personally own no less than four turkey fryers and two propane stovetops of about 40,000 btu strength. bit pots are in abundance as well. i have three of these size pots for frying as well as a huge 40L monster and an incredible giant cast iron cauldron.

this is too priceless to resist... a safety video from Underwriters Laboratories (some product safety compliance company in the states, never heard of them personally) warning against the dangers of turkey fryers... good examply of why not to use anything frozen though.

after the main video it goes to a B-roll of more flare ups and then another guy explains it all again in spanish!

12.7 MB download - horrible resolution (http://www.ul.com/turkeyfryers/fryer.mpg)
