Hey guys,

199-QUERY is a sms service, where anyone in Australia can SMS any question, worded in anyway to 199QUERY (19978379) and it will get answered within a few minutes (for $2.50.)

Now they need researchers, people like you and me who like nothing better than looking up random stuff on the net.... for money. They're looking for people, preferably with tertiary education (or studying for it) who can look stuff up fast and have a sense of humour about it. You can live anywhere in the world, in fact they need people from overseas as the time difference helps get 24 hour coverage.

The service only requires you to log into a website.

So if you can quickly find out "Whats the greatest number of kids fathered by one man?" and "What is the water of life?" and can answer it in 160 characters or less; while earning some cashola in the process; send them an email to jobs(at)199query.com with your name, age, education and most importantly, what you want your username to be. They'll put you through a short 1 hour test and ask you 20 questions which they will use to ascertain if you sense of humour is as twisted as ours.

Remember though, all your answers must be factual and without personal opinion.

How should I adress this email? Mr Pinchy? Full name or just first name?
Is Sutter an ok username?

this sounds good for students actually! and if i was able to do it, i would so be in on it - it sounds like lots of fun. unfortunately full time employment probably precludes me from this.

sounds like a bit of a larf... just like BtrFly tho, full time job gets in the way of the hilarity that would ensue ;)

I took your test, Pinghy. Tough stuff. I can't see anyone making $20 an hour (40 questions). My average time (I think) was 5-6 mins per question. That'd improve with practice, but I don't see myself making over $10 an hour.

The questions in the quiz are deliberately hard, one of them almost impossible to answer.

When you're working in the 'real' 199query interface you'll have the 199query database at your disposal. I have real language search functions which will automaticaly try and guess the google search string, and you'll have internal db searches... so any question that has been asked before will only take you 10 seconds to answer - all you'll have to do is review and click 'submit'.

the interface is also alot prettier. :)

Thanks to everyone who is taking the time to take the quiz. I'll let you know if you're successful or not in the next few days.

Hehehe, I was going to make a database of all my questions answered for that purpose. :D
Glad to hear it.

Is that the one about kings cross trains? Because I found a Sydney timetable, but I don't know what the stations there are called and no KC was listed :(
I was sad.
I did the chef one, proud of that :D

I'd be very interested to know if this breaches the minimum wage laws we still have. I can't see how you could ever earn a living wage doing this shit. Good if you want to exploit people.

I disagree. I think it gives people the chance to earn some $ whilst sitting on their arses surfing the net - which we're all doing anyway. The idea is you answer a question here and there while you're online anyway; and then at the end of the month have a nice bonus in your bank account.

I don't think its exploitative as you don't have to do it. All the terms are laid out clearly and I'm more than happy to respond to any questions.

(I won't return your neg rep either.)

Stilllife - Youll find that paying per job doesnt come under the same classification as pay per hour.
