Greetings All,

Please help me before I lose it with this problem! :gavel:

I am trying to get Xwindows to work on my linux box after it broke during an apt-get upgrade.

I've almost got it all back together but am having a big problem with the last part of getting it all working with KDE. (Yes, I know....I happen to like it tho)

The finalisation is all hanging on the kdesktop package and it fails with an dpkg error

trying to overwrite `/usr/bin/kdesktop_lock', which is also in kdelock-knoppix

I can post the actual error if need be.

The frustrating thing is that it's been working before but has decided to throw a wobbly...

Perhaps I need to pull XWindows out and reinstall?

Any thoughts pls? TIA.

Which distribution/version are you running?

I'm running Knoppix 4.0 (Kernel 2.6.12).

Hm, no idea then.

You could see if anything needs that kdelock package (apt-cache rdepends kdelock-knoppix) and if nothing does, remove it (dpkg -r kdelock-knoppix).

locust = genius!!!!! :D

That fixed the dependancy with kdesktop and a whole load of packages installed.

Now work your genius on this:

I'm now left with

X: unable to open wrapper config file /etc/X11/Xwrapper.conf

Have googled it extensively but to no avail....Will keep hunting...

Any ideas???

have you sorted this out yet?! it appears to be from the xserver-common package (try dlocate -S Xwrapper) so you may want to test if that package has been installed properly.

don't bother with a knoppix hd install - its best left as a live cd. kubuntu breezy is heaps better and kubuntu dapper is going to rock hard
