Hey... I bought a Mac Mini last fall (using it right now!), and theres really nothing in regards to photo-editing or photoshop kind of stuff. I've heard of a really good free program for Macs that you can download thats like that.

Can anyone reccomend any kind of free program I could get online for photo editing and the likes?

There is also a peice of software called "The Gimp", which you can download from here (http://www.gimp.org/index.html).

According to Wikipedia, here is the info you need to know:

Missing features, which some graphics artists expect, include:

* Support for the Pantone color matching system, or spot color.
* Support for Adobe Photoshop plugins and other add-ons[3].
* Support for anything but 8-bit per-channel images e.g 16-bit, 32-bit, floating point.
* Support for colour models other than RGB(A) and greyscale e.g CMYK, CIE XYZ.
* Extensive gamma support.
* Support for Color management (GIMP has limited support through LCMS[4])
* Adjustment layers i.e layers which act like filters.
* Undo history "snapshots" that persist between sessions.

Benefits of GIMP system include:

* Zero licensing costs, even for installations on many computers
* Available for many types of computing system
* Not dependent on any single company for updates or support
* Freely redistributable, so can be shared on an intranet or given to friends and family

If you just want to do basic photo editing (or photo composition), then this should get you home (and it's of course absolutely free).

There's a special port of the GIMP called Gimpshop. It tweaks the interface to behave more like Photoshop. You'll need to install X-Windows to get it (or even basic GIMP) to run on your mac. In practice, I've found the GIMP to be slow to respond to the mouse, which has caused me no end of frustrations when cleaning graphics up for webpages. I'm seriously thinking of shelling out some cash for a decent program.

You could always try Graphic Converter (http://www.lemkesoft.com/en/index.htm), its shareware and it has quite a few editing tools. It also lets you save and open almost any type of graphics file you can think of.
There is even a universal binary if you have one of the new Intel minis.

Here are some of the features it offers.

* Native version for the upcoming Intel-Macs (New!)
* Operator for quick image enhancement
* Imports about 190 graphic file formats
* Exports about 79 graphic file formats
* Browser
* Batch conversion with additional actions
* Slide show
* Easy creation of optimized images for the internet
* Basic images manipulation
* Enhanced images manipulation
* AppleScript support
* Support for the special features of Mac OS 8, 9 and Mac OS X and optimized for G4 and G5
* Support of new technologies like the JPEG2000 format
