We all make them and then pretend not to. These are mine, wot are yours?
Stop smoking (not likely)
Drink less (REALLY not likely)
I will not form emotional attachments to the following: alcoholics; workaholics; wife beaters; commitments phobics; gamblers; misogynists; megalomaniacs; emotional fuckwits
I will develop inner poise and sense of self as woman of substance, complete without a partner
And I will not be scared of turning 30.

Reach my target weight by mid year and keep it off for the second half of the year
Fix the backyard garden, put in the deck and the pond.

get some what?
Don't be scared of turning 30.
It's neat and you get used to people calling you "old" mostly because it's finally true and you ARE old.
Shit I'm 38 this year.

Edit: Of course, it really comes down to what you are going to change about your life to make your resolutions come to pass. Like bad management, we keep doing the same dumb thing and wonder why nothing changes.

I worked in a pub on London but it was my local so it was more like pulling beers for my friends. It was good because I could "collect glasses" and my friends always had a pint on the table for me so I could walk past and have a sneaky pint and cigarette.

First off...
CMK can't be the old fart here! I and Angel are the old farts here!
And as for turning 30! pffffttt! Thirty ain't NOTHING!
Words of wisdom! remember this 'cause when ur 40 you'll wish you knew it at 30!
In your teens you thought you were indestructable and knew it all!
In your twenties, you still thought you knew it all but were finding out that you weren't indestructable
In your thirties you realized that you just thought you knew it all and now ur wondering why your body aches in the morning and why can't you sleep all day like you did when you were younger!
In your fourties *ding ding* you now know that you never knew shit, still don't know shit and don't care to know it all!
Your body is giving up, your back hurts, your bladder can't hold as much. If ur a guy you wonder why your balls are hanging lower! and now can't get it up 2 or 3 times a day.
If ur a girl gravity has also been unkind to you and your boobs, your waking up in the middle of the night sweating, and you want to get forked ALOT, and OFTEN, problem is...men ur age don't!
So turning 30? Pppppfffftttttt!
2nd....WTF??? Kelph? This needs explaining...your embroidery?
pay off restoring my embroidery

either that or it's been repaired and needs to be paid for

First off, when you guys were talking about waiting... yep, I thought you meant waiting for a job, although it was probably snowball having waited for seven years that reinforced my initial take on things.
As for my resolutions... I will stop smoking nasty cigarettes of death and see more live bands.
In fact, I've never been to the Glastonbury or Reading festivals so I should do at least one of the two this year, maybe an Event Idea for the Uk geeks?

I'll be 41 in Feb. And you Angel?
I actually thought that I was 29 for 3 years in a row! My father finally brought it to my attention and I realized that I missed my 30 & 31st birthday!

Point taken - I will no longer worry about turning 30.
My 30th birthday is going to be a damn good day - selected friends and I going up to the Hunter Valley for a wine "tasting" day in the vineyards. :D

Contrary to rumour, I'm not actually 21. :D
Nan, I'll be 43 in September - and damn proud to have made it thus far. :)
Does that officially make me the oldest in here? I think maybe grasshopper may be a bit older? *hopes*
Resolutions to date:
1. Let my mum & da know how much I appreciate them. It scares the hell out of me that they are getting older & it may be possible that I wont get the chance to do so.
2. Attend my little sisters wedding without rolling my eyes at the corniness of the ceremony & be supportive instead
3. Save all my dollar for my os trip this year
4. Find a very very very good person to look after my beloved dog whilst away for the year! :(

If i remember the pecking order correctly, you are above the lowesdt of the low, the cleaners, above the next tier which is the dishhands, and because you are in the kitchen, you are above the plate carriers. You are hey diddle diddle, right in the middle, below the barmen and the chefs.

most people i go to uni with either don't have a job, or quit it after a few weeks because it was killing their social life.
i don't see me cooking any time soon, but as i probably won't be going back to uni this year, i'm going to be looking for a job outside the food industry.

this is a bump and a check up on everyone's progress. with a week left to go in january how are we doing?
i'm up to 2.5 miles a day with the running. i've got started on a couple of projects that will make my ex-employer look like shit. i've only spent two weekend days just sitting watching tv drinking beer. i'm keeping pretty much in track with it all.
i hope the folks that are trying to quit smoking are sticking to it. if you've fallen off the wagon why don't you use this as an excuse to get back on? i hope the folks looking to lose weight have been keeping with their diets and exercise. feel free to use this as an excuse to get back on track if that's gone awry. and all those folks aiming to get laid this year... well, i really don't want to know the details but best of luck.

Quitting smoking was the NYR I didn't really think I'd start yet alone keep so I'm pretty proud that I have even cut down to smoking only every couple of weeks.
The main NYR I have to keep is not to form emotional attachments to emotional fuckwits. And that's going quite well so far :D

I'm doing pretty well so far.
Stop smoking (not likely) Done it (except for the odd night out when I'll have the occassional couple when I'm drinking)
Drink less (REALLY not likely) Now, this is the surprise. Have cut down heaps and while I'm still a piss pot I'm no longer drinking much at home on my own.
I will develop inner poise and sense of self as woman of substance, complete without a partner Going well, I have no partner and I'm pretty happy. I think starting divorce proceedings has put a hold on forming any close relationships with males. Could do with some no-strings-attached sex though ;)
I will not form emotional attachments to the following: alcoholics; workaholics; wife beaters; commitments phobics; gamblers; misogynists; megalomaniacs; emotional fuckwits As per above comment, haven't formed emotional attachments with anyone. Although I have formed a couple of new friendships with males and that is the best way to rebuild trust and confidence.
And I will not be scared of turning 30 erm, I'm working on it :) I'm looking forward to my "actual" birthday celebrations, which I've already started organising.

BTW: your typo 'samellina' was corrected by my spell checker as semolina (http://www.gourmed.gr/dessert-recipes/show.asp?recid=382)

great work but let me be the one to warn you not to let down your guard. i quit for six months once and thought i was well clean and fucked it up. i then started smoking even more than when i did in the first place. it took another four years for me to gear up for my successful run.

we are now almost a fourth of the way through the year and i am officially ammending my resolutions:
1) Run the San Diego marathon
2) Learn to play my guitar
3) Write my book
5) Cook a bouillabaisse, a cassoulet and a laksa
5) See a game in pac-bell park
6) Hike through Joshua Tree National Forest

i'm happy to report that progress on all is very good. sadly, take up horseback riding looks unlikely due to lack of funds and return to Australia (or, failing that, Spain) is beginning to look iffy for the same reasons.
i've dropped beat my ex-employer on every story i cover because it only rots my soul to compete with them and get a radio show is now on the back burner due to problems reaching the guy in charge.
finally get my website up is still possible but i'm getting more done on the other resolutions without the computer at the house than i expected.

first of all, gotta congratulate geggle on fulfilling the first two of his resolutions. now mine:
1. get a different job (most important of all)
2. save money by drinking & smoking less, & buying less takeaway
3. cure my bitter hatred of computers, and rebuild my games machine.
4. spend less time on the PC (may be contraindicated by 3) & get out more often
5. get a real girlfriend for once
6. find out what it is that I like doing and what I want to do with my life
7. cheer up, stop hating my life and everything in it
I think 1. is the only realistic resolution.

3. Buy a bed
4. Get wisdom teeth removed and mould made for mouth to stop me grinding my teeth in my sleep.
5. Visit optometrist and get new prescription for glasses.
6. Find a doctor and get all my female type checkups done... I'm about a year and a half overdue for all those :(
7. Get riders L's, and a motorbike
Still more, but thats all for now.

It seems to me that the answer to this is to override your natural fears. ie..don't want to go to a party because you won't know anyone there. I fear I've only recently been successfull in covering. Hey the party wasn't the greatest, but I could feel a difference in myself the next day, haveing had to improvise more and read people better than I normally have to......

Drink alcohol less (once every 2 months max).
Get some new clothes.
Try psylocibin mushrooms.
Try DMT.
Spend more time away from the Gold Coast.

I am yet to break last years resolution (woah! First time ever!) which I am damned proud of.
Therefore, I think I shall make this years resolution the same as last.
I resolve that next year I shall not make any new years resolutions.

My new years resolution is to do something different. I've been working my arse off for over five years now - and New Years is the time when you reflect on just how little it matters in the overall scheme of things.
I dunno what I'll do yet - gotta think about it... it is, however time to get out of comfort zone and do something that counts (and I don't mean become a missionary or shit like that - just do something so that when you wake up in the morning you think "I'm really looking forward to today").

In all honesty I never have a resolution from year to year, I tend more to go for the 8 year plan & I don't make this plan on New Year's, I make it when it dawns on me, I kinda failed the last one, it's not always 8 years or any specific amount of time, it's just a matter when I want to achieve & how long it'll take, last time it was a plan for when I was 25(I still am) made when I was 17.

WOW!! Can't believe this thread is still going!
My NY resolutions from last year were pretty much fulfilled - excpet that drinking one but oh well.
No resolutions this year because I'm contented. Snowball will probably set the same expectations for his resolutions this year though but I'm sure they are of a much higher quality then expectations last year ;)

My resolution this year is 1600x1200@85Hz. HAHA.
Ok, seriously:
1: Stop smoking
So far so good.
Well, not good as such. I mean, I haven't smoked but it pretty much sucks.
Roll on day 4 when all the nicotine is out of my body and it's only the mental things like insomnia and crazy dreams I have to deal with.
2: Have more sex
Surefire fucking winner this one.

Maybe she doesn't like having sex cause you stink of cigarettes. *shrugs*
Or maybe you just smell cause you're a POM. *shrugs*

Yeah maybe, but that might be considered a little hypocritical of her, being a cigarette-smoking Pom too (at least up until yesterday when she quit smoking, but as far as I know she’s still a Pom). That it may be considered hypocritical is, of course, not to say that it's not true; Hypocrisy is a not a trait that is specific to a particular gender like, say, being good at maths is; Even though it’s not really politically correct to say so any more.
Speaking of political correctness, I’m really not sure it’s allowed these days to suggest that all Poms stink. Again, I’m not categorically stating it to be false, just that you’re not really allowed to talk about it in polite company; Whether or not ZGeek is considered ‘polite company’, or even ‘company’ at all, given the geographical distance between members, is really a matter of opinion and not something I’m going to dwell on here.
Anyway, the main reason I came back to post in this thread again was that I made another New Year’s resolution that, in a state of confusion probably caused by nicotine withdrawal, I completely neglected to mention.
I resolve, this year, to be far more succinct in my writing and to do my utmost to avoid going off on wild tangents when trying to make my opinions known; Including, but by no means limited to, those opinions concerning War and Peace (in real life, not the book by Tolstoy, I haven't even read it so to force my opinions of it onto people would be ill-mannered at least).

Surefire fucking winner this one. Don't mean to dig up old threads, but I missed this one till just this second and was thinking about it anyway. Like Bishi, my resolution is to quit smoking as well, and right now it's day 6 and haven't touched a single smoke. Of course, throwing away my entire supply makes that a little easier.
It's actually going ok, but yesterday was both my first day of cravings and my first night of dreaming about smoking. Fricking tough. It was so weird, in as much that I was dreaming about really wanting to smoke, and I was hanging out with my friends just enjoying a puff, but the small part of my conscious mind that was still present was really pissed off with myself. When I woke up I wasn't really sure what to do, heh.
How's your quittage going, Bishi?
And like Cassa I'm also trying to get my license before I go back to uni, but dislocating my shoulder on NYE (and my upcoming shoulder surgery in February) might ruin that one, I certainly hope not, my poor car is sitting on my driveway just gathering dust. Well.. more leaves than dust I suppose.

Getting better, I had my last one at around 11 on NYE and the cravings are not so bad now, but after work I have to occupy myself with a book or something.
I avoided the pub all last weekend but I went for an hour yesterday lunchtime and was ok, I reckon by the time I can afford to go out on the weekend I'll be fine :p

I didn't see this thread until just now.
My resolutions for 2004 are:
1. Stop smoking
2. Learn some new stuff
3. Build onto my house and sell it for lots of money
4. Get my head round having a baby
so far, 6 days into January,
1. I haven't smoked.
2. I looked into 3 different courses which will teach me how to do plastering, wallpapering and tiling. (Will book places on all of them when I get paid this month)
3. I spoke to a nice lady about getting planning permisson and have an appointment next Monday to discuss my proposed building work.
4. Hmm, this is a tough one, not started yet!

Well, it's going to happen at some point, now that I am married.
Unfortunately, I have always said that I wouldn't have any more but I get the feeling that Hubby would like at least one more and I need to get my head around it.
To some, this will seem silly, but for me it's a big deal since I have issues about how much of a good mother I am to the child I have already. l

You do realise it isn't YOUR head you need to get around when having a baby right? ;)
Craft time!
1. Get an A4 sheet of paper
2. Join it lengthways, end to end.
3. Insert random household objects into it... A stubbie, TV remote, mobile phone, small dog, that sort of thing.
4. Realise that a babies head is a little bit larger than that.
Sorry for the mental image.
Chrissy

Badpauly, I do realise that, yes.
See my later post and you'll notice that I already have one child...
He's 9...
possibly why I need to 'get my head round' having another one?
I am also slightly concerned about the aspersions you are casting on the size of my ladies bits! The last time I looked it wasn't anywhere near the size of the opening in the end of an A4 piece of paper joined end to end?!?

Well, my two are....
1) Find permanent employment (While the contract stuff I have been doing has been bringing in good money, it finished a few weeks back and until I can find more stuff, I have to live off Centrelink :( So I want something permanent, even if the hourly rate is something less than what I was on).
2) Make another attempt to give up smoking and succeed.
