You are born a male troll, you are ugly, you have a black complexion and have red eyes. You were picked on as a small child. Your father and mother hated you. Life was not good. You were trained by the brutish elders of the tribe and became a powerful beastfighter. You set out at the age of 15 to make yourself.

You come down from the mountains and find a small village, Terinyo. There are children playing outside. You lick your lips in hunger after the long journey. You grab a small child and crush his neck with your huge fingers. You sit down to eat the small child. You are eating the small child. You are finished eating the small child. Yumm!!! Raw meat!!! You are hit by a fireball. You die.

You were level 1, you died by incineration at the hand of Guth'alak the Druid.

ADOM is a simple game, you are an @ symbol. But the fun is still there many years after playing this old title. It's freaking hard, very replayable in terms of character variation, and if you finish it you are fucking nerdy but awesome. Great for old laptops and travelling, sure beats a GameBoy. There isn't much to say as it is so old...but give it a whirl and see what you think, like honestly it might take 1/2 an hour out of your boring existence, or it may rule your life till you finish this humongous task of a game. The graphics are text, the sound is PC speaker beeping and the specs needed are lower than a snake's belly, but the gameplay is fun, fairly simple and pretty dynamic and expansive in terms of stuff to do, characters to be and whether to be evil or not...I hear the final battle is against the God of Evil...in which you can kill him...and if you like take his job...I dunno all the stuff as I was never able to finish it, but now and again I try...

You'll either hate it or love, and in response hate me or love me...LOL...

My 50th level Dark Elven Assassin got all the way up to fighting the eLdErChAoSgOd

The problem is to get there, you need to be severely corrupted. And eLdErChAoSgOd hits corrupt you further, meaning death by corruption within a few shots.

I'm addicted to this game, once more. Turnbased, perfect game to play while waiting for some cock to change phones or turn his computer on or something along those lines.

It is a hard nut to crack, because when you die, you're dead. There's no restoring after death (unless you're a filthy cheater who backs up his save files and restores them on the event of death, but that's filthy cheating and we would be having a bar of that now would we, you filthy cheaters), so the only way to play is with extreme caution. But almost the entire thing is randomly generated. Your birthmonth has ingame effects, your stats can be partially controlled, your starting equipment is random to a degree, most dungeons are randomly generated, there's a dungeon called the Infinite Dungeon which is ALWAYS randomly generated, which means if you missed an important item before you left that level, you end up feeling foolish indeed.

If someone made this game, but using a Diablo style interface, this game would win multiple awards and still have people playing, decades after it comes out.

My god, man. They couldn't make a Diablo version of that. It's fucking massive! Constantly generating levels at points! Imagine the specs required, even if we used the original Diablo engine.

And the character generation... that alone would take up a whole DVD

Being a beta tester for the v1.0.0 pre-release was fun. I've been playing it for years and have only managed to finish it a handful of times.

I still have visions of my black @ swinging Sting and Needle into the necks of ancient blue dragons. I swear, its easier to kill all the Assassins to get Sting than it is to do the Assassin King's quest.
