I've been playing a bit of Settlers of Cattan lately. I bought the original board game for my girlfriend a month or two back for her birthday, but last week I discovered a free online version (http://www.s3dconnector.net/index.php) is available and is just as good to play as the real life board game.
The game board consists of a bunch of hexagons, each of which provides a different resource. Each resource hexagon has a number between 1 and 12 on it, and at the beginning of each players turn a pair of d6 dice are rolled, and resources are distributed based on this dice roll and the numbers on the hexagons.
The resources you collect are used to build roads, settlements, cities and [if you have the appropriate expansions] possibly boats and various other little things aswell.
It's kinda like Monopoly, kinda like Risk, but really not a lot like either of them all. :)
Points are assigned based on the number of settlements and cities you have, with bonus points given for the longest road [required to connect cities together] and the largest army. First to 10 wins [in a standard game].
Various addons for the game allow travelling to nearby islands and various complexities in the trade/economics, although I've not really explored the latter much yet.
I'm a bit drunk so probably not so good at describing it, but the rules are available online (http://www.s3dconnector.net/rules/index.php?title=Rules_Database).
I'd definately recommend this game to anyone who likes Monopoly and/or Risk. Whilst it is a fair bit different than both of them, considering the fact that it is free to download and play it's worth atleast a look.
As far as the ratings go, it's no Halflife or Oblivion in terms of sound and graphics, but then again it's a board game and doesn't need to be. The software gives a more than adequate representation of the physical game. So, although I gave it a 5/10 for sounds and graphics, they're pretty much irrelevant anyways.
