Sierra Nervada is awesome, was pretty much all I drank while I was in Cali earlier in the year. Tasted way better out of the tap, but even bottled it was good.

The other beer that I liked a lot over there was Something Anchor. Can't remember the first word in the name, but it was great too.

Yeah Anchor Steam!! brewed in San Fran I believe.

I'd always believed the hype that American beer is shit. I now know that mass-produced american beer is shit, the rest is great. I think the problem with mass-produced american beer is that it's made to be as inoffensive as possible and in doing so loses it's personality / individuality.

If only I could find Sierra Nervada / Anchor Steam back home.

Tooheys Extra Dry you mean Snapple? If so then yeah it's good stuff.

Always been a fan of Kraut beers. Like VB. Beez neez.

Go to the Australian pub in the-rocks if you like Australian beer. They have dozens of Australian brewed beers.

I'd say Tooheys Old, VB, Guiness and Kilkenny. But a bit of Masters Red as it's called now isn't too bad either and Little creatures is also good.

wasn't a fan of Sierra.

The new zealand beer, Speight's, is a good one.

But you cannot go past of good coopers pale ale, or if the budget can afford them, corona's with a wedge of lime.

If in London, go to John Snow and ask for some Sam Smith stout. That shit is the bomb. Bass is also a good one that is served nearly everywhere.

If you are in Australia, go to The Hopetoun Hotel or The Cricketers Arms in surry hills and ask for a Lovel's. Locally brewed and all natural, its good stuff.

Poland go for Zywick. That shit is FUCKING ace. It has this little thing on the label that, when the beer is cold enough you can see the logo, if it is too warm, the logo dissapears! AWESOME.

America, pa motherfucker all the way.

DO NOT DRINK EMU BITTER FROM PERTH. The black duck will kill you. Ewww.

Not much of a beer drinker here; I do enjoy Becks, Stella (plus it's fun to order) and had a good go at trying to empty out Little Creatures when in Freo last year. Just doesn't taste as good after being bottled.

Yuengling Lager

Oh my god!! Are you from the Philly area? Yuengling rocks! It's cheap and it actually tastes good. When my family or old friends have a party, cases of Black & Tan are the standard.

I went to the brewery a few years ago and took the tour. I have a picture somewhere; I'll find it and put it up.

Those that said crown lager is good deserve to be shot in the face. Beer was my job for just under a year. We had a guy working with us, that used to work for Fosters. Crown is Fosters lager, that has conditioned for 3 months longer. That is all.

Some great Aussie beers are coming from Mountain Goat, Matilda Bay, Little Creatures, and Malt Shovel.

The Germans and Belgians do it the Best when it comes to beer though.

Try something like Duvel if you don't believe me. Hints of toffee and caramel to it. For something really interesting, try the Belle Vue beers, the Kreik and Framboise are the most common, (yet very uncommon) They are made from Cherry and Rasberry respectively. Apparrently the new one from Malt shovel, the Hop Theif is really good, nice and fruity (passionfruit and peach flavours)

Also, for god's sake, don't drink your beer from a bottle. Put it in a glass. All the flavour comes from the aroma. Leaving it in the bottle kills alot of the aroma by not letting it escape. That's part of the reason tap beers taste better, is because they are served in a glass.

If I can find 'em next time I'm at the grog shop, I'll give 'em a try. Duvel sounds particularly interesting.

I must be showing my naivety, but I never knew it made such a difference with beer. Thanks for the advice.

Maybe I'll give Little Creatures another shot, too. ;)

Be warned with Duvel, it's got a decent kick to it. It's 8.5% if I remember. Pours really heady. It's definately a specialty beer, so may be hard to come by, and it a bit expensive. About $16 - $18 AUD for a 750ml bottle.

If you like Duvel, give Duboisson Bush Amber a spin as well, it's 12% alcohol, but tastes similar tu duvel, just alot "warmer" Due to increased alcohol content. It's also expensive, at approx $8AUD for a 250ml bottle.

You definately have to pour your beers, the wider the mouth on the glass the better. To get it best, use a tulip glass, and fill to about 2/3 to 3/4. You can get duvel gift packs that come with that type of glass and a 750ml duvel. Hunt one down if you can.

One last thing. NEVER EVER EVER wash your beer glasses in detergent, or drink anything out of them but beer. Milk is worst. They leave residues on the inside of the glass that will kill the head. Rinse your beer glasses in hot water only.

Well fosters (domestic) is shit and crown is shit..... I would rather drink VB than crown, much less pretentious and essentially the same flavour.

Actualy so far as an easy lager to drink goes fosters isn't too bad in the UK... I would rate it above Kronenberg. Interesting how every country exports it's most simple, boring draught beer.

British cask ales... awesome.

the worst part about quitting drinking was knowing i would never drink another shiner bock. it wasn't a huge hurdle since, living in peru i wasn't getting any anyway but seeing those beautiful brown bottles behind the glass window at the store when i went home nearly broke my heart.

oh well.

here is a shot of me when i went to texas and visited the spoetzl brewery. right up there with the sistine chapel, it was.

I am curious how you can say a Bitter and a Larger can "essentially" have the same flavour when they are different styles of Beer.

Foster's in the UK probably tastes different because it is brewed over there.

Cause the ones mentioned are made using the same recipe and procedure (while they are different styles of beer, CUB treat the terms bitter and lager as a marketing tool rather than a beer type description)

I refuse to buy becks and heineken since Lion Nathan started brewing them here (also stella too). Coopers is good, but Mountain Goat is the best no additive beer I've had. mmm.

Where's the poll?

For me it's Cooper's sparkling ale and James Boag premium lager. A cooper's longneck and a portuguese chicken burger is the best hangover cure known to man. James Boag just tastes like it's made from the freshest, purest mountain water in the world - which it pretty much is. I'm not saying it tastes like water, but it's just as refreshing.

Because the bitter isn't a traditional bitter, ie not really bitter at all, and the lager is as weak as piss. Served ice cold, the differences are minimal.

Makes sense. Foster's did have a decent brew in Australia about Foster's Special, if I remember correctly. Just as I began to enjoy, couldn't find it any more. Stupid Fosters....

I also have a commemorative Foster's can from the 1982 Commonwealth Games. What can I say, I'm a class act!! :D

And I'm on the wagon - no beer for Icky. Before this, I was a Tooheys Old drinker, but had issues saying no to anything icy cold.

james squires amber ale is an absolute gem, I cant get enough!

although I do like a becks, stella, heineken or a good old carlton draught for some aussie action - or a TED as long as it is extra cold. (If Ted's dont turn you on to beer nothing will, these things are the smoothest beer around if you are a non beero)
