It has been a long time since I have watched a movie that has moved me at a personal level.

This may not be the big bang blockbuster that Hollywood hoped it would be, but it is, in its own way, one of the best films I have seen.

I watched Apocalypse Now : Redux today after watching Jarhead and realised that the military has alot to answer for but yet in all its stupidity, has a lot not to answer for.

The pain that this Marine goes through, and the complete parrallels that are brought into focus with Vietnam are amazing.

The visuals are not stunning in a sci-fi way and yet have the power to convey what it must be like to spend all your training days waiting for a perfect shot and not get to take it.

The burning wells, the anticipation, the total immersion is amazing.

My best recommendation for this film is to sit in a small dark room and remember that this isnt about special effects, this is about real life.

See it, hire it but most of all, think what it would be like to spend all your time training to be the best you can be, and then never being able to prove it, to yourself or anyone else.....

Semper Fi (what the hell does that mean anyway? -Bifrost)

Semper Fi is short for Semper Fidelis or "Always Faithful" (latin) Motto of the US marines.

Very good movie, and its good to see a war movie that doesn't glorify war but shows the reality (99% boredom and 1% action)

I remember speaking to my Grandfather about WWII and he told me that some of the guys at his base used to get so bored, they would fight at full speed and full power with sharp bayonets just to fill in the time.

i want the two hours of my life back on this one, cant agree with the review above, i found this to be one of the dullest movies i have ever seen. If you want a good war movie, watch full metal jacket, the stanley Kubrick classic.

I was trained the best I can be and never got to use my skills.
Movies about reality are not always good.

i enjoyed the movie. it was a very interesting look at the lives of the US marines when there is nothing to do.

I thought it was pretty shit, the only reason I stayed to watch the end of it was because I was hoping they'd all die from firey explosions and gunfire because they were all annoying cunts.

I was disappointed they lived. I was disappointed in the move.

Good movie that views war from a totally different angle. i.e. that its mostly getting bored in a crap environment. The only downside was that the main character was a bit of a smart arse who thought he was intellectually superior to all the retards around him.

I watched this movie in Recruit School, and it was funny/scary being able to relate characters to fellow recruits :)

Great movie, great story, and the book (biography) is an awesome follow up read. Highly recommended.

I only watched this film a few months ago and it had the rare effect on me of making me cry.

I was married to a veteran of that war and this was probably the reason.

That aside, I did think it did an excellent job of showing the reality of the day to day goings on, my ex agreed.

I spent the whole movie waiting for a jet engine to fall on him or a man in a bunny costume to pop out and start harassing him
