If someone hypothetically gets a life sentance, does that mean that he spends life in jail or 25 years in jail? I think life but my friends seem to think that 2 life sentances would equal 50 years in jail and other weird shit like that. I think that if you are sentanced to 25 to life in jail then your sentance is just that, am i right or should i just shut up and never mention it to them again?:boohoo:

25 to life is a life sentence, with a non-parole period of 25 years. After 25 years your case will be reviewed by a parole board, who will decide if your behaviour merits a supervised return to society. If you violate your parole you go back to prison for the remainder of your sentence, though I believe you are still eligible for parole (if you can convince the board you wouldn't violate your parole again). Depending on the crime, the judge may impose a life sentence without parole, or life with 50 years non parole period, whatever. 2 life sentences, though more likely to have a longer non parole period, may not necessarily have. "25 to life" is one possible sentence, not a standard sentence.

A life sentence in Queensland at any rate typically means eligibility for parole after anout 13 years.

If you are sentenced to an indefinite sentence then there is no eligibility for parole and that can mean actual life in prison
