'I take photos among the drug addicts, drug dealers, prostitutes and homeless'

A man who has written some of Britain's best-known ads now has a new sideline - taking photographs on one of America's most dangerous streets.

Wayne Hanson won an award for the best socially-responsible ad as part of the World Federation of Advertisers' 50th anniversary three years ago.

He moved from Sweden to San Francisco to continue his career as a creative director in advertising. But he now takes photographs at weekends and he has just had his first exhibition with another photographer, Bruna Stude.
