View Full Version : ZGeek Football Match?

kré

in honour of the heroic socceroos who have done us very proudly in germany and inspired by nerds fc, i would like to suggest a zgeek football match. depending on interested numbers this could be anything from a friendly kick-around to a semi-serious event.

assuming enough people would be interested, i've tapped out some ideas and some possible ground rules, which, of course, are completely open for discussion.

suggestions
------------------------
+boys and girls are all welcome to play. hermaphrodites can peel oranges.
+teams to be chosen by all interested players posting details about their physical abilities and sporting experience, then nominated team captains will choose players one by one.
+teams to decide on a colour shirt which all members of that team will be required to wear on the day.
+if amount of interested players is:
"less than 9": we could just get together and kick the ball around.
"9 to 14": game will be 4v4 played in an 18 yard box.
"15 to 24": game will be 6v6 or 8v8 played on a half field.
"25 or more": game will be 11v11 played on a full field.

possible regulations
------------------------
+sneakers/trainers only, studs/cleats not allowed.
+shin pads encouraged, but not required.
+unlimited substitutions.
+players must have registered on the site before june 28, 2006 to avoid ringers.
+at least one informal "training" session is encouraged.

other points
------------------------
+if we get enough people interested to have a full 11v11 game, it would be a nicety if 1 or more people volunteered to referee, however, we're all generally good people and could more than likely play fairly enough on an honour system.
+spectators are encouraged.
+spectators with still and/or video cameras are encouraged even moreso ^__^.
+a bbq and pissup afterwards is essential, so a saturday is the preferable day.
+suggested dates would be either mid september or mid to end of october, when it is usually warm but not facemeltingly hot. or, if we're really enthusiastic, we could tie it in with the global zmeet.

now, would anybody actually be interested? does anybody have any suggestions?

let's footballing!

Making that a zmeet thing could be a fun idea I think.

I'd love to play but I forget how to (it's been about 8 years since I last played anything kicking balls that aren't DumHed's)

Where are you thinking of having this so called soccer match?
I have about 11 trophies and 3 medalions under my belt. I havent play the last 2 years. I also got 1 basketball trophy and a chess trophy from primary school. w000. Ill volunteer for the referee role and/or still camera man.

sound like a winner.
i agree, zmeet would be a good time to organize event.
last time i played soccer was at our chef's christmas party a few yrs ago.
imagine 20 guys, drinking solidly for 3 hours, when some1 says. " hey i have my kids football in the car "
ppl were running off the field, scolling half a beer then running straight back on, made for an interesting afternoon

The farter is a possible depending on work and timing of club matches. Must be Sydney.

Me as a player......
Currently play over 35/5's, although I have played (keeper) as high as Amatuer Leage 1's.
Have been a goalkeeper for about ten years
Won my first ever grand final last year (by stopping two penalties in a shoot out)!!!!!!!
NOT fit, dodgy knees and could not run out of sight on a dark stormy night!

Actually, I should clarify...
It was indoor soccer in high school...
I told the guy i WOULD kick him in the nuts unless he gave me the ball.

And then I accidentally kicked someone else in the nuts when trying to kick the ball later on.. it wasn't on purpose.

if we get enough interest in doing so, this could turn into a zmeet thing, which would be excellent as far as i am concerned.

If I was there, I'd happily play... but that seems unlikely. Event must be videotaped for posterity/mockery.

Maybe we could do two matches at once, one in syd and one in melbourne and then compare the scores..

Now that would be fun...who in Melbourne is up for some soccer?

Weeeeeee! It's all about the nuts ;)

Put me down as '"a possibly interested party". I'm alot unfit (as opposed to a little :) ) but it could be good for shits and giggles.

I thrice this notion for this event to be involved with zmeet.

Kick and giggle, fueled by beer and BBQ sounds pretty right. Girls v Boys skins and shirts sounds even better :D

Wentworth Park. Thats the one up near Central Station right?

Farter Junior (15yo) expresses an interest but is not registered. What would be the ruling on ones offspring joining the festivities?

- any water bottles that I can find in my house
- witches hats that I will steal from the street in honour of this sporting spectacle
- lots of "Tackle 'im, farken!"'s

I guess i shall hand over the ref position to king_Crud now because it is more likely for him/her (lol) to make the game.
