A&A is an ambitious project, a supergroup if you insist upon calling, but this is nothing like anything any of these artists have ever contributed to. Fronted by Delonge, this album is anything but a glorification of ego.
From the gradual build up from the very first song, "Valkyrie Missile", almost a six minute intro to the rest of the album, it plays on to call on the jets flying through town, destruction and fires burning, and a man swearing his love through it all in "Distraction". Through song after song, the lyrical content pores through experiences such a giving every bit of yourself, only to be knowingly lied to the entire time, wanting more all the while, to songs recognizing the emptiness and hopelessness you feel, and asking to give just a little more to find that solidarity. I could go through this entire album track by track, invoking my impression upon you, but I would encourage you to experience this album for yourself, and take from it what you feel.
This is by no means an Emo album. Yes the lyrical content is deep, but it is not that whiny heartbroken shit that our kids today are so hooked on. This album is a display of hope, passion, and optimism for our future. As a person, and even as people.
As you listen, you are going to hear strong U2 influence (the 80's U2, when they were still busy being musicians, and not trying to save the world), and in reflection, I can't help but to call on the intelligence of Pink Floyd. The passion for the music and lyrics are evident from beginning to end.
Those that live in the UK are subject to a special treat on their albums, because after all the studio tracks, they include two live songs, which I find absolutely incredible. That said, catching them live will have you privvy to experiencing to a superb performance.
I encourage you to take a risk and listen to this album. The fact that this is Tom LeLonge's project nearly put me off completely and I never would have given it a chance if someone had noyt begged me to find a prerelease copy for him. I told my friend that I was going to kick his ass if this a bitch album, and amazingly, I fell in love with it from the very first listen. Chances are you will too.
