Switched imac off and uplugged all cables, before I went on a trip for 4 weeks. Came home plugged all cables back in and hit the power button, nothing!

So far I have unplugged cables taken apart and pressed the PMU button, put back together not forgetting the thermal paste and still nothing. I then unlugged cables took apart and replace the battery, put back together and still nothing!!

Any suggestions would really be appreciated as I use this machine for a home based business. Please Help.

When Sapia is online, She may be able to point you in the direction of someone at Apple that can help.

This may sound stupid, but check your outlets, power strips, circuit breaker box%u2026

It may not be the computer at all.

Thanks for the idea, have however checked all power outlets, fusebox etc. Still dead as a dodo!

Hey pablo it sounds really strange.. I've got an imac 800 non-widescreen and the thing has been pretty damn hard to kill. Had a lightning strike that fried the power supply on a PC and toasted my adsl modem. The imac was connected but not switched on when the strike struck. It started again first time I tried and still boots up today, built-in ethernet got fried (was connected to the adsl modem) so i bought a $30 usb to ethernet adaptor and got it back online that way. Am planning to put a 16x pioneer DVD burner and bigger faster hdd in the old imac as soon as I get around to buying a torx screwdriver and some thermal paste.

But none of that waffle helps you much, sorry 'bout that. If it's got business files that you need urgently your best bet might be to rip the case apart again (looks like you've got all you need to get the case open) and physically rip the drive out of the imac. Throw it in an external case with USB, connect it to another mac via USB and you should be able to browse the drive and grab whatever you need. Am not sure if you'll have problems with password protected / encrypted directories but the drive should at least mount and let you have a poke around. Good luck!

Yeh, that is very strange. I have never ever had such problems with my iMac even when i left it disconnected for the two weeks while i went on holidays. But i have never heard of that happening

If you have tried everything my best bet on what happened, would either be 1. when you disconnected the power you affected the connection and hence why you can't get any power 2. somehow you dropped it, it managed to fuck up something

If all else fails, try the mac shop they will possibly fix it.

About the HDD, on the apple site they have instructions about actually taking it out and inserting it other machines yourself

Test the cable you're using / swap with another one.

It would be unusual for something like this to happen when your computer was turned off and unplugged... did you leave the phone line in by any chance?

i'd suggest it could be the actual power cable or socket in the machine... but i wouldn't be sure.

I'm assuming since you said PMU button on the logic board you're using a bubble base imac: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=95164

HAVE you tried booting with nothing except power plugged in (and by nothing it means *nothing* no ethernet, phone, no keyboard, no mouse, no nothing)

I have an iMac that did exactly the same thing. Didn't have time to fuck around with it before leaving for overseas so if you do find a solution post it!

pable, you are screwed. Its either your power supply or you logic board. Both are very vulnerable on the Imacs, and I have replaced both VERY often on many macs. Its actually not a good idea to unplug them. When you plug them back in, due to the way they are made, you subject all the electronics to a mini voltage surge. Time to get a new computer, as repairing your old one is not worth it.
