Ive been looking at mp3 player recently. Looked at the creative zen and the irivers and the archos but there all sort of crappy in there own way (i love the zen vision W 60gig but you cant get them here and im not going to buy shit from Singapore).

So is the ipod but the ipod has heaps of hacks and 3rd party games and apps so if i get bored with just music i have other things to do. But there is no way i will buy one unless i can get rid of all the copy protection bs.

There is no fucking way i will buy a device i am getting fucked up the arse by. few feel better now. so hacking the ipod 80 gig one if it matters. Just want to know if its possibe and how to and if its worth it.

also any reviews on the 3 brands mentioned above would also be appreciated by you guys not on the net ive read heaps of them. Also any nerdy bs that goes with three mentioned above.

Im really border line with what i want to get. 80 gig sounds cool can put my movies and stuff on it. But if i cant take them off at the other end whats the point. I have 3 comps and if i cant move the music around on them like wtf mate (not that I need to do it with the ipod but that’s not the point). so the conundrum

The only songs with digital restrictions are the ones you buy from iTunes. If you don't want digital restrictions, don't buy from iTunes -> rip your own, buy from Magnatune, or warez it. Putting a song without any digital restrictions on an iPod will not place any digital restrictions on it - it still remains an unencumbered file.

Personally, I don't buy any music from iTunes for one simple reason - all of my purchases would be unplayable on any non-iPod mp3 player, and I do not like being locked into anything.

If you are concerned with taking stuff off the iPod, then don't use iTunes. Personally, Amarok is by far the greatest music player/library etc and can interface very well with almost any portable music device. If Amarok is not available on your platform, there are always alternatives such as EphPod to name one.
